Which is better for determining African Ancestry, Doug McDonald or 23andMe? 23andMe says that I am 1.2% West African even on the conservative estimate. However, Doug McDonald said that I have no recent "SUB-SAHARAN" ancestry (which must imply Northern Africa). He indicated that I am 81% Euro and 19% Mideast with the Mideast most likely being Palestinian, Sephardic or Bedouin. Just trying to figure our if I have an African American ancestor or if the African comes from some Converso ancestors who made their way to America.

Insuperable

Didn't you say you have confirmed SSA ancestry through genealogy? If so, there is your answer.

Actually there is a blank spot that I assumed came from an African ancestor...someone was an orphan

McDonald is better at distinguishing between various types. 23andMe's "Central and South African" could mean Mbuti or San, two very, very different groups, with no way to figure out which.

He suggested that I had no SUB-SAHARAN African, which must hint at North African. 23andMe suggested that I had West African. He gave me English and Palestinian as my top result.
