When a cruise line moves a ship from one destination to another for the season on a one-way repositioning cruise, you can nearly always snag a good deal. This year you can take a cruise from the U.S. to Europe for cheaper than airfare.

You need to set aside up to 14 days for your leisurely sailing (which will include as many as 10 days at sea), and find a flight home. But with starting fares from $299 to $599 per person for an inside cabin you get a lot of bang for your buck.

Check out these transatlantic cruise bargains.

Noordam: Pack your bags now and cruise on this 1,916-passenger, Holland America Line Vista-class ship from Fort Lauderdale to Barcelona, embarking March 21, fares from $499. The 14-day itinerary includes port calls in Ponta Delgada, Portugal and Cadiz, Malaga and Cartagena, Spain.

Ryndam: For a classic cruise experience, cross the Atlantic on Holland America's 1,258-passenger Ryndam.
