Polish World War II victims are appealing to Germany's railway to set up a humanitarian aid fund for Poles forcefully transported on German trains during the war.Stanislaw Zalewski, who heads an organization of Polish wartime political prisoners, called Wednesday on Deutsche Bahn to set up a fund to help pay for medical care for elderly Poles forcefully displaced during the war.

A German group supporting the claim estimates that the Nazi-era railway made profits of at least (EURO)440 million (US$640 million) transporting people against their will across Europe during the war.

A spokesman for the Deutsche Bahn AG said the company had already paid several million euros into a fund to compensate former slave and forced laborers. That fund included a clause freeing them from any further compensation claims.

One has to keep in mind that those are the same wagons the Poles and Sowjets used to transport ethnic Germans and German POWs to Siberia.
