The Muslim sharia police in the Oslo's Gronland district is worse than previously thought, claims the Norwegian Progress Party's Lavrans Kierulf. "The sharia social control of the Norwegian Muslim community is much worse than published in the newspapers.
In the recent days, the Norwegian media has run several stories about the Muslim sharia police of the Gronland district of Oslo, but managed only scratch the surface of the issue. Kierulf believes the sharia police control is worse than told.
"I think, unfortunately, that the issue of Muslim sharia control of the Gronland is worse than the Muslims dare to acknowledge in public. I've received a lot of feedback from Muslim girls during school debates." As examples he mentions that Norwegian Muslim girls are not allowed to attend school camps and swimming lessons.
"We must send a clear message that we'll not tolerate this in Norway. There cannot be one norm for boys and another for girls. In Norway we treat all the same."
Where is the debate?
The Norwegian Progress party has the support of the member of the parliament for the Labor Party, Torgeir Micaelsen, who wants a debate on the Muslim issue. "I'd like to hear from the Norwegian youth and both Norwegian and foreign-born parents. What do you know about this? What do you hear at school? Is everybody allowed to join a school trip or party," writes Micaelsen on his blog and encourages the young muslims to response.
