I think he is said to be of Vlach origin from what I read, but there's something that strikes me as Levantine about him...

He doesn't look Levantine, but more like Georgian or something.

Is Karounis a Vlach name?

I'm unsure. But I know that he looks what we call "Mtebid", a type common to Georgia and the North Caucasus. I wonder if he is partially Pontian.

Turturro looks like a Jewish stereotype, this guy doesn't.

He doesn't look Levantine, but more like Georgian or something. He looks like a swarthy Vlach, I have seen other Vlachs with this look. Their look ranges from this to almost Germanic types

Hm, I think he might be just Dinarid.

Armenoid with Berid.

Not so fast on calling him swarthy. I think we are ignoring the summer and winter skin tone differences here which are very prominent in Greece for people with lighter skin. I think he looks quite fair in most photos.

What is the difference between Mtebid & Armenoid!?
