What is interesting is the first photo in the link is from Agrigento region and that it is the darkest, while the photo from Catania is lighter. People often say the eastern side of the island is darker but I don't think it is.

Yes. But I mean if you go to the first photo, you see no light hair and everyone is tan with "pointy" features, while in the third photo, there are more light types.
