A Brit-Jew friend who lived in Tel Aviv, working for an English language newspaper, did say that the poorer parts have become messed up with illegal immigrants. I suppose it is up to the people to force the authorities to uphold the law and solve this problem. She was saying that she did not feel safe there. So, no, it is not acceptable if you have what we in the UK term "no-go areas" developing, and locals do not feel safe. Israel is a small country, with a small population, so this is going to become a problem very quickly unless people pressure the authorities to deal with it.

Not really. We just recognize Israel and its people to be an incredibly heterogeneous amalgamation of foreigners who occupy our land. Has nothing to do with a perceived continuation of Euro imperialism.

This is true, but in the first initial phase it was indeed seen as continuation of European imperialism, because most of the Jews that came were Europeans, this only changed after 1948 when Mizrahim from all over the Arab world came to the region, followed by other non-European Jews, and this attitude rather changed. In some way even Mizrahim viewed Israel originally as such, this why you had the Israeli Black Panther party btw. Now the Mizrahim have gained more power, integrated into society, and have intermingled quite well with other Israelis, and this attitude changed completely most of them being hardcore Zionists, which can be understandable to some degree to why. Even today some people still see it as European entity or imperialism maybe not the Palis, but others in the region do.
