Growing up irish culturally, we always felt our family had been in Ireland for a long time. Our family surname comes from the original name - Mac Murchada. We always knew this, but didn't know the details.

As it turns out, our subclade L21, is a Nordic line. We have marker / mutation -- Z255+ and L159.2 / S169.2
Apparently this exact marker (L159.2) also exists in Haplogroup I2a1 (L159.1). They know that this line is related to the Kings of Leinster and Diarmait Mac Murchada (which is our family name).

This particular line is specific to the Irish Sea, Isle of Man and the Hebrides. Also prevalent in Norway + Western & Southern Scotland + Northern & Southern England, Northwest France + Northern Denmark.

We always considered ourself Irish, but in particular Viking. Now this has been confirmed by this subclade, which is a Celtic-Nordic line.

Fascinating.

Anyone else out there with R1b1a2a1ab4f L21 ?

L21 - probably one of Bell Beaker markers and obviously not Nordic given the data. Just to a few percent in Denmark and regionally in Norway. Strongly connected with Celtic presence.

The ones in Scandinavia are Thralls originally, slaves.
