:love0031: Great documentary about the controversy behind the BM music scene in Norway by interviewing 'the most feared man in Norway'... Gaahl.

He explains the reasons behind naked people with blindfolds on them hanging on crucifixes on his stage, and pigs and sheeps heads on spikes at their concerts, why he demands action from his listeners and audiences, and why he tortured a man in a forest who was annoying him.... and made him drink his own blood whilst singing him pretty Norwegian lullabies... 'it's like my paintings... you don't stop until something is finished.'

Norwegian diplomats are even trained in giving speeches to tourists about black metal music in Norway.... because BM music is such a major export and a large source of revenue there. There's tourists even learning Norwegian lessons because of the music. When tourists arrive in Norway and they're all dressed in black leather, the airport staff say they automatically know why they're visiting Norway.

Mayhem (from Norway) with Dead (from Sweden) on vocals. Dead shot himself in the head after writing a suicide note... and Euronymous took photos of his dead body to put on their album cover. Euronymous was an extremist theistic Satanic cultist and he fell out a lot of people as he'd put poison in peoples drinks, etc.

Euronymous from Mayhem also fell with band member Varg Vikernes (an Odinist Pagan) after Varg made bm music mainstream. (Euroynmous wanted to keep it underground.)

He threatened he was going to tie Varg up in a forest and torture him to death and videotape it.... but word got back to Varg about his plans.

So Varg and his friend paid Euronymous a visit one night... and drove all the way to his home on the other side of Norway.

A fight broke out and Varg stabbed Euronymous to death before he had the chance to kill Varg.

A Norwegian retelling of the famous Song of Roland, a medieval French epic or chanson de geste written down around the 12th century AD. The epic poem itself is based on the defeat of Charlemagne's rear guard as his army returned from Moorish Spain in 778. It has since, however, become unrecognizably embellished as the story continued to grow in popularity. This version is performed by the Mediaeval Trio, and can be found on Amazon, along with a wonderful collection of other Norwegian songs on their album "Folk songs", whose link I have included below: http://www.amazon.com/Trio-Mediaeval-... (https://www.youtube.com/redirect?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FTrio-Mediaeval-Folk-Songs%2Fdp%2FB000UVRL7O&redir_token=FzuMB8W0RlP6pRUn6eg169YtjaF8MTU0Nzg0Nz gxNEAxNTQ3NzYxNDE0&v=414mrPgK5Yk&event=video_description) Vocals: Anna Maria Friman, Linn Andrea Fuglseth, Torunn Østrem Ossum Percussion: Birger Mistereggen

Sønner av Norge (originally Sønner af Norge, literally "Sons of Norway") is the common title of the anthem Norsk Nationalsang (literally, "Norwegian National Anthem"), which was the de facto national anthem of Norway from 1820 until the early 20th century. From the mid-1860s, Ja, vi elsker dette landet gradually came to occupy the unofficial position as national anthem, but was used alongside Sønner af Norge until the early 20th century, with Sønner af Norge being preferred in official situations. The anthem was written by Henrik Anker Bjerregaard (1792–1842) and the melody by Christian Blom (1782–1861), after Det Kongelige Selskap for Norges Vel had announced a competition to write a national anthem for Norway in 1819. Norsk Nationalsang (Sønner af Norge) was announced as the winner.

A song about the very ancient Norse Pagan Goddess 'Hel' (the daughter of the Norse Pagan God 'Loki') of the underworld in the cycle of nature.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c5/Hel_%281889%29_by_Johannes_Gehrts.jpg

In the Poetic Edda, Prose Edda, and Heimskringla, Hel is referred to as a daughter of Loki. In the Prose Edda book Gylfaginning, Hel is described as having been appointed by the god Odin as ruler of a realm of the same name, located in Niflheim.

In Ancient Norse mythology, Hel is the goddess who presides over the dead in nature.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdvnJZsCzzY

These ancient European cultured Gods and Goddesses were later demonised in the Judeo religion, and their original meanings were lost and altered... but ancient wisdom can still be found if one looks into the natural beliefs of our most ancient ancestors.

Gaahl (a.k.a. 'the most feared man in Norway') is the vocalist of Wardruna and the black metal band Gorgoroth.

It's from this briliiant documentary that I watched many years ago.

Some nervous metal music journalists met with Gaahl (a.k.a 'the most feared man in Norway,') to visit his home, and they asked him and other Norwegian black metallers a lot of questions about the church burnings in Norway, England, and Poland during the 90's.

Gaahl explains he grew-up in the mountains and went to a remote and quiet school with just one other boy. He took them on a long walk through a forest up the mountains (and the journalists were out-of-breath and struggled to keep up with him,) to visit an old place where his grandparents lived. Gaahl said people must be leaders of themselves and not followers. He showed the reporters some of his paintings... and talks about the problems of judeo-christianity in society.

Gaahl talked about his court trial after a man bothered him once in a forest... so he tortured him and cut him up and forced him to drink his own blood, whilst singing him 'pretty Norwegian lullabies' to teach him a lesson so he wouldn't bother him again. The man was truly sorry after that.

Even Norwegian diplomats are now trained on giving lectures on the large range of Black Metal music in Norway as it's a massive industry for Norway.

Whenever tourists arrive all dressed in black clothing, the airport staff automatically know their reason for visiting.

Black metal fans are even shown to be learning Norwegian so they can understand the lyrics.

Whenever tourists arrive all dressed in black clothing, the airport staff automatically know their reason for visiting.

Black metal fans are even shown to be learning Norwegian so they can understand the lyrics.

"The most feared man in Norway" is also an openly gay fashion designer. I just can't get over that. :P

The first and only song I ever heard from Satyricon was Mother North. My friends in high school were absolutely obsessed with black metal and I remember when one of them showed me this video.

Yeah, it's just mainstream media propaganda and fearmongering against anyone who raises awareness of the truth about our messed-up societies.

Instead the mainstream media should point-out how alarmed and afraid people should be of their governments and Islamisation. Gaahl is not some brainwashed and warped ISIS suicide bomber. It's not Gaahl or Varg Vikernes who I personally fear in society. The behaviour of the mainstream media is far more disturbing to me.

I don't think I've ever watched the full interview so I will make sure to do that. My city is considered a heavy metal city, and black metal is extremely popular here. Most of my friends were black metal and death metal fans, while I was obsessed with classic rock lol. I'm sure you've noticed me spamming some classic rock songs in many of the threads here. :P I did like this particular Gorgoroth song. I did like a few black metal songs that my friends showed me.

I watched that documentary 'True Norwegian Black Metal' well over 10 years ago... I've watched it numerous times over the years, and thoroughly recommend watching it. You can see where his grandparents lived at the top of a mountain, and Gaahl takes the interviewers on a long trip up a mountain and around forests.

He said he likes to create fear so people keep a distance from him and learn to guide themselves rather than to be a follower in life.

You also get to see inside Gaahl's remote home, and he even shows a few of his paintings and artwork that he made to the interviewers, although he was reluctant to show much of his artwork to them.

Other Norwegian black metal musicians are interviewed in the brilliant and atmospheric documentary too.

I like Gaahl's long silence at the end too in response to a question the interviewer asked him if he 'doesn't mind being one of the few people worthy of the title of being a lone wolf.' Gaahl looked agitated and disgusted by the interviewer's lack of insight, and dismissively and flatly said, 'I don't think you're asking me the right questions... I don't think you're focusing on what is being said to you.'

So the interviewer nervously said, 'guide me,' (you could hear the quiver in his voice.)

Gaahl then sits in a trance-like state of deep thought during an approximately two-minute resentful and uncomfortable silence towards the interviewer, (the type of hostile silence that's so uncomfortable in the atmosphere that it feels like a 'loud screaming silence', so-to-speak,) and his awkward silence feels like an eternity of passive aggression.... followed by a sudden turn of his head at the end of his two minute silence and a menacing glare made with his eyes towards the interviewer... as if he was looking straight into the interviewer's mindless soul... and as if to silently say, 'you utter ignoramus.'

Gaahl proves the sheer psychological power of using awkward silence in the video-clip below.

(I'd love to know what Gaahl was thinking... or rather not!)

Gorgoroth means 'terror'.

I also like Gaahl's other band Wardruna (which is more traditional folk-based and spiritually atmospheric compared to his costumes and very heavily angry sounds full or wrath and fury in Gorgoroth.... which also has its place too of course, depending on my mood.)

Listened to all 3. As a guitar player I have always found black metal and death metal guitar work as very very impressive. What tends to bother me is the vocals lol. I feel like a lot of these songs would be so much better with clean vocals. But that is just my personal opinion. These days I am far more open to what music I listen to and I could see myself jamming these songs often. :thumb001:

Sami singer Máddji from Kautokeino, Sápmi singing "Iđitguovssu" (Dawn Light). This song is from her album "Beyond" (Sámi: "Dobbelis") - 2010. Lyrics & Melody: Ánne Máddji Heatta Composed by: Thomas von Sonnenberg Photo by: Kenneth Hætta

Lyrics (English):
You flew in from the dawn
Such a sight when you came into view
You stretched your white wings
Careful embrace

Swan, my swan
Dive, heat my blood
Swan, my swan
Before dawn breaks

You flew in from the dawn
Such a sight when you came into view
You whispered softly
Youthful caress

Swan, my swan
Dive, heat my blood
Swan, my swan
Before dawn breaks

Bring out my yearning
The longing of the lonely

Lyrics (Sámi):
Iđitguovssus girdilit
Hávski lei go iđistit
Vilges dolggiid geigestit
Várrogasat salastit

Njukča, njuvččažan
Buokčal, ligge varan
Njukča, njuvččažan
Ovdal iđitroađi

Iđitguovssus girdilit
Hávski lei go iđistit
Jaskatvuođain savkalit
Nuorravuođain njávkalit

Njukča, njuvččažan
Buokčal, ligge varan
Njukča, njuvččažan
Ovdal iđitroađi

This song is from Annbjørg Lien's 2nd album "Annbjørg" (1989). Annbjørg Lien (born October 15, 1971 in Ålesund and raised in Mauseidvåg, Norway) first came to national prominence in 1986. Shortly afterwards got a recording deal with the Heilo label and released her first album on that label in 1988. She has received numerous awards, both in Norway and the Nordic countries, including Gammleng Prize in classical folk music in 2004 and Hilmar Prize in 2006.

This is a Norwegian forest psy or darkpsy artist who has created a unique style of psytrance. He has similarities with Sectio Aurea and Psykovsky in the sense that he has many experimental songs with long ambient or beatless sections, or that some of his songs are really long, or that he mixes different subgenres within the same album. Like IDM, it's a more experimental or ambient-style of music that emerged from a style of music that was originally more dancefloor-oriented.

Instead of doing the obvious and spam the living hell out of this thread with Black Metal, I`ll leave some pretty cool Country Rock here instead.

Original lyrics and English translation:

Lyfjaberg

Sal din hug og lat den ri og renna
Med blinde augo vil du vegen finna
Djupt du dreg anden inn – let tankar svinna
Langsamt slepp anden fri – i vinden rida

Spinn spindel – tvinn i tankar, kverv i syn
Seidsongen, lint den lokkar hug or ham
Fram gjøno døri, gjøno kongro-sløri
Fram, ber med bare føt, den tunge børi

Ut in ditt indre ventar bratt ein sti

Legg frå deg reidsle, legg di maske ned

or marg og bein
or kjøt og blod
or hold og skinn
i vær og vind
ut du svinn
eg manar deg inn i berget blå
der korkje sol ell måne skin deg på
eg maner til skogen der ingen bur
og til den sjø som ingen ror
djupt under jordfast stein
til ingens mein
gjønom elva renna
havet venda

I vær og vind
ut du svinn
Korkje sol ell måne
skin deg på
Synk i den sjø som
ingen ror
I elva renna,
i havet venda

Lyvjaberg hev alltid stende
til trøyst for sjuk og såra
Kvar og ein som berget kliv
Lækjast for livslang sott

Legg den att på Lyvjaberget
Hødgi der åar alle,
buktar støtt seg nord og nedan
Bergar den som berget maktar

Healing-mountain

Saddle your soul and let it ride
With blind eyes, you’ll surely find the way
Draw your breath in – let your thoughts fly
Let it out slowly – on winds you’ll bide

The spindle spins, the thoughts entwine revolving sight
The enchantment song lures the soul from its shape
Out through the door, through the cobweb-veil
Out borne on bare feet, a heavy burden

Out in your innermost, a steep trail ahead
High upon Healing-Peak, nine maidens await

At the first stop where paths cross, you pause
Leave clothes behind and all you own
Where you are heading, they’ll be of no use
The burden lightens, but heavy is the trail ahead

At the second stop where paths cross, you pause
Leave time behind, and weighty thoughts
Where you are headed, they’ll be of no use
The burden lightens, but heavy is the trail ahead

At the third stop where paths cross, you pause
Leave fears behind, let fall all masks
Where you are headed, they’ll be of no use
The burden lightens, but heavy is the trail ahead

Naked at the top, the mountain knows you
North waves an eagle-wing, the wind it draws
The shadow-women dance about you
They sing for you, chanting powerful runes

Wounds and sickness
Of marrow and blood
Of meat and bone
Of flesh and skin
into weather and wind
you fade
I summon you into the mountain blue
Where neither sun nor moonshine can reach you
I summon you into the forest where no one dwells
and out to the sea where no man rows
Deep beneath an earthbound stone
out of harm’s way
Run through the rivers
and roll with the ocean tides

Into weather and wind you fade
Neither sun nor moonshine can reach you
Sink in the sea where no man rows
Run through the rivers
and roll with the ocean tides

Healing-mountain stands for eternity
It comforts the sick and the sore
Each and every one who assails that rock
Will find their lifelong ailment cured

Leave it behind on Healing-Peak
Where the rivers and streams
dance northwards and down
That mountain mends all those who climb

Traditional tune from Sunnmøre, Norway, after the folk musician and composer Karl Eidem ("Blinde-Karl").

Here's what Annbjørg Lien is saying in the beginning: "What my eyes didn't see, I got through the tones. Karl Eidem said this, a fabulous fiddler and composer from Sunnmøre. He was born blind and was therefore called Blind Karl. In his youth he travelled to the town Trondheim and attended a school for the blind, where he learned both playing the fiddle and a staff system. After returning to Sunnmøre he was the main force in boosting the traditional music at his home place."

Recorded live in Hakadal church, north of Oslo, in 2002.

Bukkene Bruse are: Arve Moen Bergset (vocal, hardingfele / Hardanger fiddle, fiddle/violin), Annbjørg Lien (hardingfele / Hardanger fiddle, nyckelharpa), Steinar Ofsdal (flutes), and Bjørn Ole Rasch (keyboards).

The picture and sound quality is not so good, because this was originally recorded on video (VHS).

Kongesangen (The King’s Song) is the Royal anthem of Norway. Set to the tune of God Save the Queen with lyrics written by the priest Gustav Jensen, it was adopted upon the coronation of Haakon VII as King of Norway in 1906, following the dissolution of the Swedish-Norwegian personal Union in 1905.

The song is released on Bukkene Bruse's album "Den fagraste rosa" (Grappa, 2001).

The song tells the story of farmers who raised special trees regarded as sacred in Telemark in ancient times. On Christmas Eve they traditionally chopped down one of these to use as a Christmas tree. One peasant had a chat with the "spirit of the grove" when he was out fetching his tree.
