What is your prefered weapon when engaging man to man combat?

Maybe for some its a gun, knife or say a baseball bat...

For me its my fists, but I never leave home unpacked...

when fists aren't sufficient I trust on my boots firstly;
http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh169/Torvald34/10827-gk.jpg

But I always carry one of these in case someone pulls out a weapon of his own;

And when I should have nothing on me, this is prefered;

Steel-toed shoes(not boots), preferably, because they're fully legal and fully invisible. I also have an asp, and had a Soviet AK-47 bayonett, but these are illegal to carry on the street here.

Not that I get into many conflicts when I'd need them, but one ought to be prepared for any kind of situations in life. I also had training in sparring and certain martial arts.

Steel toes as well. I keep a folding knife on me and a kubotan.

I had a retracting baton but I bent it on some hispanic guys van. He picked a fight with a friend of mine. Even after I choked the hell out of him he just didn't learn. :loco:

Even though Hawaii has pretty strict weapon laws, Ka-Bars, and all other single edged knives, are legal. I've never had to use mine, but with all the hobos lurking around everywhere, I always carry a good fixed blade knife.

Exactly, Europe has ridiculously strict gun- and weapon-laws in general, in addition to the ban on the death penalty. The maximum legal length of a bladed object you can carry with yourself here is 7 centimeters, but anything that the police marks as "potentially able to cause serious injury" can be taken away.

I have the very same knife in my car, but made by Ontario Knifes. I guess during the war, the US contracted out to several companies to make the Ka-Bar.

I've never thought of this. I reckon if SHTF (unfortunately I don't own a gun...), I reckon the Grandfathered Bayonet tied to a pole (duct tape FTW) will quickly take care of the Heebs and Muslims in the neighborhood.

I sometimes carry a survival knife on me (not cause I like weapons. Just because the hilt was made/bought by a Great Great Grandfather and out of Reindeer horn. And it has saved me a couple of times when I needed to cut rope)

Glock 17..

Compact, concealable, extremely durable, very reliable, will never rust, always fires under any circumstance and oh so sexy.. Only thing sexier than a glock 17 is a woman with a glock 17 imo..

I like pepper spray too..

...Good things to have in case zombies invade too..

People often ask me why I have amassed such a huge collection of weapons (everything from Dark age bladed weaponry to modern high tech rifles). I used to take the time to explain about all my various interests in history, martial arts (Eastern & Western), outdoor activities, ...blah, blah, blah... Now I just routinely reply nonchalantly that they are for "when the dead walk the Earth" and leave it at that.

I keep a knife in my car along with a spare tire iron but I don't usually carry them on me. I used to carry a bike lock, about a meter of steel rope with a lock on the end. That got me out of a couple of sticky situations when I was younger and was easily concealed.

Improvised weapons can be useful, but aren't reliable, you can be caught in situations where there is nothing close at hand.

I sometimes walk around with a Bowie Knife, just the sight of it has proven to get me out of kinky situations, I also use Nunchakus, but since one need suitable training to use one, it's not preffered. I also got a wooden Katana, and it can make a quite good impact on the right occasion. But if you need a knife, make one out of wood, they can get quite sharp and pointy:)

I`ve been on the receiving end of a man`s punches, and frankly as a woman, I`m useless to counter it. But, I DO have a lovely collection of weapons now :D
I favour the crossbow and archery bow, but if I`d to chose something for close combat it would be the Scottish dirk..halfway between a knife and short sword...or even the sgian dubh, a short knife meant to be secreted about the person, traditionally worn under the oxter (armpit) but nowadays worn tucked into the sock of Scots national costume. :)

This site has RPK belt guns and Saiga 12g with drums, but you will not be able to get any this late in the game before the ban. Of course, these type of discussions are never complete with a mention of the Barrett semi-auto 50, which you can look at in the site also.

My preferred weapon is my fists. There are plenty of weapons always at hand.
Now for my question, how many of you have actually trained to use your hand to hand weapons like the one in one post that said I carry a knife in my car? The answer is probably only a handful and even with that training it may only have been a day or two in basic. This brings this to hand then that if you have not trained with hand to hand weapons then it is best to not try to use that weapon if you are more proficient with just you fists. The reason for that is that you become to centered on that weapon and your opponent if they are any good at what they do #1 will pick up on that and #2 is liable to take you weapon from you and use it on you.
Now of course if you are proficient in gun fu and carry concealed then more power to you. At that point I prefer the para-ordanance .45 double stack that holds 14+1. Not to terribly hard to conceal either.

These Rifles are expensive here so that's why I wouldn't sell it to anyone else outside Canada, because you can get them cheaper in the states, about half the price as it is here.. I'd sell it for about $900.00 mount and Magpul stock included which isn't a bad price, since I'd be selling it for half it's value..

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f3/M82A1_afmil.jpg

The M82 (also more recently known as the M107) is a heavy SASR (Special Application Scoped Rifle) developed by the American Barrett Firearms Company. It is used by many units and armies around the world, including the American Special Forces. It is also called the "Light Fifty" for its .50 caliber BMG (12.7 mm) chambering. The weapon is found in two variants — the original M82A1 (and A3) and the bullpup M82A2. The M82A2 is no longer manufactured, though XM500 can be seen as its successor, in that it also employs a bullpup configuration.

What about standard rings on your fingers, they can leave quite a impact, but is it then your fists, or the rings which would be the weapon?

Seeing as I can't edit my post anymore let me say this it was a misunderstanding of the term man to man combat, naturally in close quartered combat I would not bring a machine gun :P

For close quarters combat, the Judge is probably the best handgun out there. I'm mean, seriously, what's better than a shotgun that fits in your pocket?

Rudy
01-21-2009, 10:31 PM
Some people have concern that the Taurus Judge will not have enough penetration. I do not think that a 410 slug will penetrate better than a 45 Long Colt. It is only an advantage if you need a portable snake gun.
http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot41.htm

If you want a big revolver, then get a Magnum Research in 45-70. There is a nice recoil chart halfway down the page.
http://www.magnumresearch.com/FAQ_BFRRevolver.asp

For one shot only, the double barrel shotguns are tough to beat.

I think loading a .410 slug into a revolver that can carry a .45 Colt is kind of redundant anyway. Use some sort of shot w/ the shotgun shell. If I blast your face/neck/upper chest with a .410 shot shell, you'll still get the point.

Also, 2 inches of penetration into flesh is still significant. Especially around the chest/face region.

Bad people sometimes wear heavy leather jackets, or are on drugs, and do not react to bird shot as much as one might think they would. However, I agree that heavy bird shot would be a deterrent to most.

Stagger your ammo. .410 shot, .45 Colt, .410 shot. Or however your like. .410 shot, rest .45 Colt.

You can squeeze two off before he closes the distance. This way you hit him with .410 and .45.

With something like that, I think that the spray factor is far more valuable than penetration.

Rudy
01-21-2009, 11:19 PM
I have read some coroner opinions before that despite its lack of penetration, that heavy bird shot from a 12 gauge is quite effective from what they have seen. I am still not convinced about the 410 spray from a handgun being more than a deterrent. I am not volunteering either.

Many people just stick with what is most effective, buckshot, and do not mess around unless there is a reason. Some people in mobile homes or apartments consider heavy bird shot. It is still better than most people's fists.

Ulf
01-21-2009, 11:39 PM
Do you have any knowledge if their is .410 buck shot? Pardon me if this is a dumb question, I know buck shot is a large caliber, but I'm just wondering. It would certainly be a better option.

The bird shot has a larger area of effect, meaning in a heated situation you need less precision. I'm assuming that getting hit by bird shot would also feel like getting hit by a Mike Tyson punch, only worse...

Rudy
01-21-2009, 11:53 PM
3" 410 holds 5 buck shot pellets, and 2.5" holds three .34 (of an inch) pellets. It was estimated at box-o-truth to get ~4-5 inches of penetration from the handgun.

I have no idea what it feels like to get shot with 410 bird shot, I only know that many times it only damages the skin and underlying muscles, but does not reach the organs. It could look bad, but it would depend on the mind state of the "bad guy" for how much psychological impact it had.

I have read that heavy bird shot from a 12g leaves many people on a table. It is assuming they are not wearing a heavy leather jacket. Many professionals would only use buckshot (from a 12g).

HawkR
01-22-2009, 08:11 AM
Why not carry a granade? Now, if you have a granade, I don't think to many people would fuck around, and since it's "hand-to-hand" combat, the distance between you and the Glock wouldn't be to far.

My prefered set of weapons for a full blown conflict would be:

My .300 Winchester Magnum rifle as primary long range weapon
side arm my .38 Special
my Sgian Dubh for close range
and in the case of lack of ammo I would use my Urnfield Dagger, which is pretty much a sword in its right.
and my Safety Toe Swat Boots for the stomp

My daily weapon and protection is:
Safety Toe Swat Boots
Brown Leather Jacket
and my Sgian Dubh
and Leather Bracers, yes they are blade resistant, I've tested them out. :D:D:D

Here's pics of my bracers and Sgian Dubh, I normally carry the Sgian Dubh in the inner pocket of my heavy leather coat for concealment and easy access, but for the occasion I wore it in my bracers:

But I never get into fights but when something would happen in a pub I would first try to reason with him and if he comes up with a weapon I would make him EAT this:
