A molecular basis for classic blonde hair color in Europeans

A new study is out about the genetics behind blonde hair in Europeans. The main SNP that is looked at is also tested at 23andme so if you have tested at 23andme you should be able to check your results for it. My mother and I have CT at rs12821256 while the rest of my family members that have tested have TT. I am not completely sure as the test is behind a pay wall but I think the C allele may be the ''blonde'' hair gene. If the C allele is the blonde gene then is certainly is silent in me and my mother as neither of us have blonde hair but we both did when we were young but mine especially really darkened up when I got older and hit puberty. My hair ow is very dark brown in color.
