Surname Question

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the surname "Batstone" everywhere I look is telling me that it is typical of southwest England, but I just wondered if any of TA has heard it before or a variation of it?

I thought that too, but from what I can find the name was present in England previous to the Norman conquest. If that means anything.
