Simple can we please stop or minimize the Filipino topics here? It's The Apricity a "European Cultural Forum". If the topic is related in some-way to Europe then I'd love it but honestly honey this is their turf so we have to respect that. ^_^

We are in Philippines Subforum.. you want to talk about European Cultural Forum. Do you hear the Rondalla, It's not an Asian origin. What's wrong with that then start a thread.

Ok then. I'm just echoing their sentiments in the other thread (http://www.theapricity.com/forum/showthread.php?129023-Is-this-actually-a-European-forum&p=2717517#post2717517).
But since no one else is complaining. Do go ahead my dear.

Well, i agree that apricity is supposed to be a European cultural forum and i would like to talk about Europe :fbard:, if wanted to learn about Asia then i would pick an Asian forum...On the other hand since we have an Asian subforum is fine for people to post here anything and everything they like about Asia and Asian cultures :costumed-smiley-067.

Personaly i dont mind seeing Asian people trying to promote their countries and their cultures and from time to time i check here to learn a thing or two about Asian cultures as well, what i do have problem with is when people pretend to be something they are not like Asians trying to pass as Europeans .

Yeah, it's influences so it's definitely not European and was introduced by French then the Spaniards introduced it in the Philippines.
What I mean from being not Asian is the origin of the dance. But for us we don't considered this dance as foreign already because we used it. Usually, they dance this in Junior and Senior Prom or in Debut party similar to Latin America Quinceañera or they dance in Malacanang Palace.

Our dances are mostly slow with graceful movements as you notice, well these are Ilustrados folk dances
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilustrado

The Ilustrados (Spanish for "erudite,"[1] "learned,"[2] or "enlightened ones"[3]) constituted the Filipino educated class during the Spanish colonial period in the late 19th century.

They were the middle class who were educated in Spanish and exposed to Spanish liberal and European nationalist ideals. The Ilustrado class was composed of native-born intellectuals and cut across ethnolinguistic and racial lines—Indios, Insulares, and mestizos, among others—and sought reform through “a more equitable arrangement of both political and economic power” under Spanish tutelage.

Stanley Karnow, in his In Our Image: America's Empire in the Philippines, referred to the Ilustrados as the “rich Intelligentsia” because many were the children of wealthy landowners. They were key figures in the development of Filipino nationalism.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86ubRlfdbyE

Aetas ethnic dances are done for certain purpose or celebration. Being nomadic in the mountain, celebrations are done on their own ways. Dancing actions are usually integrated with the animals in the jungle and nature. Today, they use a guitar and flutes for the rhythm. Aetas mimic the actions of animals, birds and crickets. Together with the traditional dances, Aetas are offering gifts and sacrifices before they hunt or plant their crops. This Native group perform ritual dances for the environmental spirit whom they called "anito". This is a way of respecting the environment and to live in harmony with nature.

Andaluz folk dance of Ilonggo Ilustrados in Ilo-Ilo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UpP7E9aEpc

Andaluz (also called Paseo de Iloilo) is a sophisticated courtship and flirtation dance that originated in Iloilo at the time of Spanish colonization. In this dance, men compete with each other in trying to attract a young lady by showing off their chivalry, grace, and confidence. Flattered with the presence of the three guys, the beautiful dalaga entertains each suitor one at a time, of course, in a manner of a dance. The music accompanying this dance is lovely blend of a slow paseo music and the vivacious zapateado music.

Andaluz refers to the natives of the Andalucia region in Spain. This dance is, in fact also called Paseo de Andaluz (Andalucian Leisurely Walk). Needless to say, this dance was from the Andaluz people who introduced their own dances to the Ilonggo people during the colonial period.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5GJwX2er2o

Four versions of the malagueña are known to exist in the Philippines. The Malagueña de San Pablo from San Pablo, Laguna province, Quezon province- the Malagueña de Catanauan from Catanauan town. Another version, the Malagueña de Pila (Laguna) uses bamboo castanets. The least known of all the Filipino Malaguena dances is the hybrid Pandanggo Malagueña, a pas de deux. This version is one interesting discovery of Philipine National Artist for Dance Awardee- Leonor Orosa-Goquinco in one of her early forays into studying our dance culture.

Pastores Talisay

from the small town of Camarines Norte is of Mexican influence. The voluminious skirts, the flower arches, the tambourines and the paper mache as well as the lanterns echo their Mexican origin. Pastores (shepherd in Spanish) is a Christmas dance with many versions found from Cagayan Valley in the north to Zamboanga in south. Small bands of children and some adults roam the streets at Christmas time and perform from house to house for a small fee inviting everybody to visit the new born Christ in the manger.

Performers: Male, Female

The dependence of the Tausog on the pomelo tree and its fruits have created a bond between the two which prompted the Tausog of Jolo, Sulu to make a dance honoring the latter. The Sua-Ku-Sua or “my pomelo tree” is a dance that likens the sua’s gentle leaves, attractive fruits, its fragrance and slender body to that of a lady. Performed by couples, the Sua-Ku-Sua dancers make use of two white fans that are swayed, as if to signify the swaying of the leaves of the sua tree while singing along with the music in their rice powder-covered faces.

In this dance, the boy tries to please the girls who are trying their best to get his attention and favor. You were banned? I actually understand your sentiment. That is why I am posting videos and photos of our culture for people to understand. How we all have these certain culture and although, some people misunderstood it & we get criticized because of it. I don't know if you still lurk around to read this. But I learned a lot from some of your post regarding our country.

I'm not banned because of breaking rules, I asked to take a break. ^_^

^1st dance is Maglalatik (Coconut farmer dance)
Maglalatik coconut shell dance is the only one I'm familiar and have seen performed. They used to do it at the church I went to in Illinois growing up.

Have not witnessed any of the rest found in this thread.
