According to a genetic study, the Azores are the Portuguese region with highest African admixture in Portugal, with significant East Asian admixture,. According to this study (link in Portuguese) Keep in my mind that the Azores, along with Madeira and Southern Portugal, are the Portuguese regions with highest African admixture. According to this study (link in Portuguese) http://www.nch.pt/biblioteca-virtual/bol-nch17/boletim17-pags227.pdf

Mithocondrial DNA in Azores:
81.3% European origin
11.3% African origin (reaching 25% in the east islands)
7.5% east Asian origin

According to the study, the significant African lineages are due to North African presence, as well as black African slavery. The east Asian lineages are due to a Sephardic present. It also cites a Flemish presence in the central islands.
