He is Jewish himself (or "self hater" or "ex Jew" as he puts it), an Israeli who served in an elite unit of the IDF.

Gilad Atzmon (Hebrew: גלעד עצמון‎; born June 9, 1963) is an Israeli-born British jazz saxophonist, novelist, political activist and writer.

Atzmon's album Exile was BBC jazz album of the year in 2003. Playing over 100 dates a year, he has been called "surely the hardest-gigging man in British jazz." His albums, of which he has recorded thirteen to date,[7] often explore the music of the Middle East and political themes. He has described himself as a "devoted political artist."

His criticisms of Zionism, Jewish identity, and Judaism, as well as his controversial views on Holocaust denialand Jewish history, have led to allegations of antisemitism and racism[8][9] from both Zionists and leading anti-Zionists.

^ I wonder from where his ancestors hail from. From what I saw, he is an Ashkenazi Jew, but I'm not sure from which countries they come from.
