A modern druid named Merlin stands as the sun rises at the prehistoric monument Stonehenge

An estimated 37,000 people gathered to watch the sun rise on the longest day of the year, with a small number of arrests reported by police.

Wiltshire Police said the 25 arrests were mostly for drugs-related offences.

Druids and pagans are among those who mark the summer solstice at sites such as Stonehenge and Avebury.

"We are pleased that the solstice celebrations have been enjoyable events for the majority of people attending," said a spokesman for Wiltshire Police.

The summer solstice or Litha - which means a stopping or standing still of the sun - has a long tradition of attracting people to monuments to witness the sun rising on the longest day.

Police said the road system had worked well with "minimum delays" and many people used public transport .

"It is always a pleasure to see so many people enjoying the event," said the spokesman.

I wonder how many of those are genuine Pagans. I bet the vast bulk of those there would be the worst of the worst liberalism has to offer.

I as a pagan do not support such ritual costumes, they are too influenced by the modern media. See other pictures of their gathering and all the garbage thrown on those sacred grounds... I hope that at least half of the people there were real pagans.

Happy Summer Solstice for the northern hemisphere of the world. I grew up in the West Country and feel a strong affinity with nature and the earth energies there. Stonehenge is one of literally thousands of ancient sacred sites across our island.

Here's a beautiful song I want to share with Loki and those who appreciate nature and its energies. It's about Newgrange by the Celtic band Clannad. Newgrange is a sacred site in Eire. It's a beautiful folk song and there's pictures of both Stonehenge and of Newgrange too.

I used to get Clannad albums. Not keen on "Newgrange", though. This is better IMO:
