The appeal of bonsai trees reminds me of aquascaping, when I was younger and a bit nerdy, I used to have 2 aquariums like this. Both aquascaping and bonsais originated in Japan, I think they are regarded as artforms.

I sent my mother a beautiful bonsai tree for Mother's Day today. She received it yesteray by mail order (after receiving her birthday parcel from me the previous day) and she was delighted. It's a 7 year Chinese Elm Bonsai tree and 25cm in height. My Mum told me during our walk together last December alongside a river at the back of her countryside home that trees have their own personalities.
