They look typologically similar except for the first being more Dinaric influenced.

both of them?
yeah Crete!lol was it so easy to guess? When I saw them I thought of you because you often question how crete based on its location has light individuals.I was watching a documentary about gavdos(island under Crete)the lowest point of europe and I was surprised to see these two.

It's not even so much that Cretans are light, but that they look significantly western compared to other Greeks and actually compared to southern Italians too.

Yeah, you're right but what I mean by light is that crete has more nordic-influenced types than rest of Greece for sure.

I think that is true, too.

And it makes sense because genetically from results I have seen, Crete comes up like 75% Cyprus, and 25% Central/Northwest Europe. Thus they do not have so much Balto-Slavic like mainland Greeks, but an ancient West European element that differentiates them from Cyprus for instance.

The same is true of southern Italy.

Does this mean southern italy has similar types?

Crete has Venetian influence too, maybe that contributes somewhat.

Southern Italy does have similar types but less common. I can show you examples if you like.

So you mean that there is a special element in Crete that differentiates from Cretans as we know them?

These are some Sicilians, and the one in the middle top and bottom right both have the light Cretan look too, I think.

There was that map I think of Coon on pigmentation that gave a lightish element on hair for Crete.

In other anthropological maps Dodecanese and Crete were given pan-Med and in case some oriental influences from what I remember.

Perception in Greece about Cretans is that they're quite dark people, not something notorious but existing. That's why I'm asking if there's a special element.

Yes. They were part of a Dolce & Gabbana photoshoot. I was surprised by some of them but they all have native names.

Yes,I was reading something about this the day before yesterday..It is said that almost half of the Cretan R1b is Italic but the thing is did venetians had such phenotypes?I doubt that types like those I posted were brought by Venetians but I could be wrong, I don't know how they looked

I'd like that if there's any link.

Yeah...and apparently the area with highest and most unique and R1b in Crete has MtDNA that matches closest and with those recent dna studies on Minoans. Supposedly the Venetians cleared out the Lasithi gorge, but apparently as always, the Cretans managed to get to the mountains.

Cretan R1b is closest to Italic, yes. I am unsure because Venetians I see don't look like lighter Cretans, but a combination of genetics might produce the look we see. I am unsure.
