These grow here and they are the best!! But getting much rarer in recent years. :(

They make your pee bright red. If you're not prepared for it, you think you are peeing blood. :)

They grow only in the pine forests, and they are European pines. They are not native to South Africa. The spores found their way to here from Europe, probably in pine wood which was brought here. But yes, they grow here. A couple years ago I could pick a whole basketful. These days you are lucky if you find one or two.

There are called "pine rings" here.

There are many mushrooms which grow here, but I know for CERTAIN that the pine rings are edible. I have probably missed some other edible ones too, but I'm a bit scared to try them. I need someone who can go with me and point out directly which ones are for consumption. I don't want to read a book, go by pictures and then end up with something that will kill me.
