I wanted to make a thread so other people could listen if they want to. Some of it's Earl Scruggs, there's a lot of incognito old guys that just go by names like "Smiley Hobbs" and stuff, so it's hard to tell.

Hey man, great stuff. Some of the music you've put on here have really turned me on to some great musicians. I reckon that you being from North Carolina, you probably have an ear for the real authentic bluegrass. I haven't been disappointed. I'll check out all these later. Thanks!

This stuff is more raw, this is just common people playing, but it's about as authentic as you can get. It's all fiddle music. The recording quality is shit unfortunately but that doesn't take away from it one bit

I like fiddle music more than banjo.... some irish/Scottish musicians in my area play a lot of fiddle music in the pubs. gets pretty load though.

Well, I like bluegrass because it's very soulful and deep, and it uses sounds played from real instruments, not some artifically created beats and rythms. Also, listening to the music, you can really feel the culture that created it, real hardscrabble, salt of the earth, a lot of character. Plus, I love the sounds of the various string instruments used.

Thats a perfect way to describe it. It just means you have an ear for real music, how it's supposed to sound.

Hollow, airy, and sharp resounding of the banjo, contrasted with the light and smooth flowing fiddle.

The way I always think about, you have to imagine you're driving an old rickety truck down a steep mountain road and you're close to the edge. Just listen to this song, the sharp twang at the end of every riff is like you're getting too close to the edge:

Well, went through all these clips. Thanks for the great music man. I loved most of it. Put em in my IPOD, I got a long drive tomorrow so I figure it'd make the drive a whole lot smoother.

In appreciation, here's a great piece I found linked to one of the songs you put up the other day. This honestly brings a tear to my eye.
