Hmmm I don't know, but from what I could find on google the root seems to be rather German derived. Merkl exists as a surname in Austria and by adding the Slavic suffix -in you get Merklin. Merklin also exists as a toponym in the Czech Republic.

"The exact origin of the name Alma is debated, but it is most likely derived, in the female form, from the Latin word almus, which means "kind", "fostering", or "nourishing".[1]

The name is used here too, for example the poet Alma Karlin:

Alpine with Pontid influence. Interesting name, ''Alma'' is the name for a popular chain of deli stores in Poland.

Does it mean anything in Slovenian? Alma in Latin means ''support''. Here it does not function as a given name.

It doesn't mean anything in Slovenian, but neither does Alenka. Luka and Lana, which are currently the most popular two names for babies, also don't mean anything in Slovenian. Most names in use here are versions of Latin or Greek or Hebrew names.

So it's like in Poland therefore.
