Mehmet Erdoğan, nephew of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has been sentenced to four years and two months in prison on charges of drug trafficking, the Turkish media reported on Monday.
In a major drug case in İstanbul, Mehmet Erdoğan has been convicted of taking part in drug trafficking. The court ordered the immediate imprisonment of Erdoğan, who also faced similar charges in a previous case. İstanbul 1st High Criminal Court also handed down jail sentences to Esra İşcan, Serkan Emre, Bayram Kaplan, Selim Selvi, Aysen Tutkun Özmen and Koray Tansu.
The court also ruled that Mehmet Erdoğan periodically undergo medical examinations and regularly report to the police after serving his sentence.
