Around 8.5% of all Scottish men tested belong to this R1A subclade (higher in North East), but it is only found in 25% of men in Norway so around 1/3 of male lineages in Scotland must come from Norway. Most of the rest through I1 (I-M253 subclade).

I guess my maternal grandpa is Norwegian genetically then..
I think all Scots who are r1a are probably paternally linked to the historical figure, Somerled.. whose clan descendants have been tested as being r1a.

Hmm.. Your map is missing one thing, there's a pocket in Western Norway that has a higher percentage of R1a than the rest of the country. Presumably, men from that area raided Britain and spread R1a there.
Edit: Just saw that the map is for I1 instead. Nice.

this.....you think though that today we would be able to tell the impact on Ireland's gene pool the vikings had. they founded all of the irish major cities.

yea sorry I couldnt find any good maps of R1A, the I1 was just to confirm where the rest of the Norweigan male lineages (additional +15% in eastern scotland) came from and that it was around 1/3 or 33%

Surely R1a in Scotland is Norwegian. Where else could it have come from?

Mostly Norse-derived but not in all cases.
In case of Scottish L664, clades are both Norse and Anglo-Saxon, also various Z280 are observed among individuals (Maine from Trongate, Sanders), Z93 (descendants of Sir Godfrey McCullough, Douglas of Queensberry, Anderson from Glasgow).
Only a fraction of Z284 is probably from Somerled.

Scottish Z93? Never heard about thst. Arey they related with Indo-Iranian or Turkic subclades?
