How about some reccomendations of "good" heathen music/albums to check out? I don't care if it is rock, metal, folk, whatever.

I am sick and tired of people mentioning Amon Amarth as "heathen" music.... It's terrible music on a metal side of things, as well as a spiritual one.

Two recommendations of mine are Agalloch, who take a very pantheistic approach to heathenry of out ancestors, but it's still very apparant. Listening to them is like walking through the woods on the most overcast of days.... Balm for the soul. Their musical style is a mix of post-rock and folk, I would say (Psychonaut can back me up on this one!).

The other one is Amorphis. They take a lot of their lyrical inspiration from Finland's national epic, the Kalevala and transform it into something modern people can understand in their hearts for this day and age. A truly magical group.

Quick on time here but Gjallarhorn, Leaves Eyes, Lumsk...mostly Nordic Folk. I think it's very hard to find actual "heathen" music. The OR will be coming out with a CD soon. Keep your eyes peeled on that.

Carl Donaldsson, heathen who was on Our Meadhall for a while, had some nice online songs too.

That's all I have time for now.

Cheers!...Aemma

Here are a few good neofolk artists that I consider to be authentically Heathen, both in style and spirit:

Darkwood (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darkwood)
Fire + Ice (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_%2B_Ice)
Forseti (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forseti_(band))
In Gowan Ring (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Gowan_Ring)
Of the Wand and of the Moon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Of_the_Wand_%26_the_Moon)
Omnia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omnia_(band))
Sol Invictus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sol_Invictus_(band))
Waldteufel (http://www.waldteufel.net/)

Like Hellasson, I'm really picky about Heathen metal, and really don't care for most of what's out there. Aside from Agalloch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agalloch), I do really like:

Alcest (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcest)
Eluveitie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eluveitie)
Enslaved (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enslaved_band)
In the Woods... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_The_Woods)
Ulver (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulver)

Agalloch is great, but Amorphis is a favourite of mine.
It's good to see another fan as to be honest I thought no-one had heard of them but me! Haha

Well heathen and heathen...

Heathen themed?

Then I listen to quite a long list...

Eluveitie
Ensiferum
Equilibrium
Korpiklaani
Thyrfing
Týr
Wolfchant
Menhir
Finsterfrost
Fintroll

And loads more that I have forgotten.

I also listen to a lot of Classical music especially the romantic which were quite heavy in their use of Germanic paganism.

But I tend to place very little value in the lyrics hell I even listen to what people call anarchist music as well as Nazi music, if it sounds good :)

Anyone a fan of Heidevolk? Not the most musically polished Heathen metal but fun if you're in the mood for it.

Yes they are awesome, I particularly like their cover on Normaals Vulgaris Magistralis, the lyrics are funny :D

Forgot to add them to my list :/

Hulde aan de kastelein always makes me grin, haha

Also, Ensiferum is a nordic heaðenish band - probably my favourite band. I don't know if you would classify it as 'garbage' or not per the thread title Hellasson, haha

I don't know a lot of what's out there at this point, but I'm always looking.

One band who does come to mind is Tyr. They remind me a lot of Jethro Tull, but they also strike me as a band who are the real McCoy and not just another bunch of pretenders!

If you like metal/extreme metal I can recommend Einherjer, Borknagar, (norwegian) Storm, Isengard, Thyrfing to mention some.
Softer music: Wongraven, (later) Burzum, Hardingrock, Garmarna, Fejd.

There are MANY more that I like, I'll save it for another time.

Just discovered these today via Metal Hammer:

Like it.

Founder member Kvitrafn is quoted as saying "Wardruna is first and foremost a result of me working with shamanism and norse cultic activities" and goes onto to say "as for the musical side, it was probablya result of thre not being any misic like this, at least not originating from the norse culture and tradition"

Off the top of my head, most of my recommendations also have been mentioned here. But one is firmly missing still.

Kiuas. If you love Amorphis, you'll enjoy this band as well. A Finnish pagan band.

Two songs, the first is very upbeat, the second more sad.

kSnzKoqvxS8

Warrior soul blazes through the land of frost and snow
His pagan heart and flesh built to endure the cold
Warrior soul to the death against all foes he fights
He's born under the northern lights

u06WbYrFKoc

On the darkest of winters evil arrived from across the sea
Disguised as a wooden cross - as the coming of salvation
Death and destruction they brought and clashes of steel filled the nights
And the North Star watched as the blood of her children flowed

I'll come up with more bands this weekend. I'm too tired right now to think clearly.

Moonsorrow, anyone?

Very much worth listening if you're into epic stuff.

I liked Amon Amarth, but now they sound looks boring to me. They became a sort of "rockstars", and one album after another seems to be following always the same formula, without anything new.

The band bellow is from Russia and looks interesting:
