The Croatian coastline together with its islands ranks among the most intricately indented coastlines in the world. Of 1244 islands, islets, cliffs and reefs that have remained following the dramatic rise in the level of the Adriatic Sea around 13000 years B.C., today only 50 are inhabited.


Brač it the largest island in Dalmatia, and the third largest in the Adriatic.

Cres island - According to the theory by Mexican scientist Julio Salinas Price, the sorceress Circa is found on the island of Cres, who had astounded and enchanted Odyssey and the argonauts:

Island Pag - well known for its original Pag lace, worldrenowned Pag cheese, best Adriatic Beaches, Party zones (Novalja is the most touristic zone of island Pag):

Korčula has a very old Stonemasonry history, a tradition which reached its peak during the rule of the Venetian Republic (1420–1797).
They say that Marco Polo was born here (1254 - 1324), the wayward traveler to China, and Mongolia:

Ugljan is a Croatian island and the first in the Zadar Archipelago. The island was first mentioned under its present name in 1325.

Mljet is the most southerly and easterly of the larger Adriatic islands of the Dalmatia region of Croatia. The National Park includes the western part of the island, Veliko jezero, Malo jezero, Soline Bay and a sea belt 500 m wide from the most prominent cape of Mljet covering an area of 54 km2.The central parts of the park are Veliko jezero with the Isle of St. Mary, Malo jezero and the villages of Goveđari, Polače and Pomena.

Jabuka (pronounced [jābuka], which means apple in Croatian) is an uninhabited volcanic island in the Adriatic Sea, west of the island of Vis. It is part of the Dalmatian archipelago.

Among all islands in Croatian archipelago it is Pašman that has the biggest green surface considering its total area. And it is the 12th island in Croatian archipelago in land area. It is also known to have the cleanest water in the Adriatic due to the current constantly changing:

Šolta is the closest island to Split, just 45 minutes by ferry, it's remained a place of pristine natural beauty:

For many years, Krk has been thought to be the largest Adriatic island, with an area of 405.78 km2 (156.67 sq mi), although recent measurements now give the neighboring island of Cres an equal surface area. Krk is the most populous Adriatic island, with numerous towns and villages that contain a total of 19,286 (2011) inhabitants.

Interesting...The Southern Bulgarian lands (which are not in today's Bulgaria) have similar architecture. Houses built entirely with stone and only the doors and the windows are with wood in order to be protected from the sun and to be more safe if Turks come.
