king of Sweden (1697–1718), an absolute monarch who defended his country for 18 years during the Great Northern War and promoted significant domestic reforms. He was, however, also a ruler of the early Enlightenment era, promoting domestic reforms of significance.

The Vikings were a bit "metrosexual" (to use a modern term) for their time and vain... the image of an unwashed(they washed twice a week) ugly hairy barbarian with horned helmets is a myth...

I bet even the Swedish vikings were more metro than their Norwegian and Danish counterparts though, with the makeup, baloon pants and other fancy stash they obtained in Eastern Europe and Byzantine. :p

The guy in the stars and stripes shirt is a dead ringer for what my daughter's twin brother would look like if she had one. Wow. Incidentally, my daughter's father was 50% Swedish...making her 25% Swedish.

The boy in this picture looks also almost exactly like her father looked when he was a very young man.

ETA: Kind of getting sick of people carrying on about how there are not enough "Nordids" for their taste.

I happen to think the Swedish people as a whole are beautiful. I love their features, and see them as Scandinavian features in general. Nordids are just one of many subraces, not better and not worse than the others.

I dont think he said it in that way :) ...I know about the finn-swede little war, but still, that's forever. I think Borreby and Baltid can be a bit confusing when they come all together. And ofc there are also Baltid swedes,...but yeah. There's a lesson to learn, no finn is needed to envy a swede, and no swede should get his nose up on Finland as such rude they sometimes can be. Its annoying. :)

Baltid-influenced females are not really uncommon, while Borreby-influenced males are not uncommon either. It is simply Lundman's "Västmanlandstyp" (internationally categorized as "Faelid"), which is one of the main representative phenotypes for the Swedes.

Germans are shorter than us, at least that was my impression when I was there some years ago;), personally I think many Norwegians are more simillar to Irish and British people(perhaps we are a bit more borealised in looks) than Germans.

Well they might have been biased yes, but we can see today how wrong or right were they. But that takes time and dedication.
Lets say someone posts Fredrik Ljundberg as a famous Swedish footballer, to prove anything actually the whole Swedish football team should be posted as well. So samples where cherry picking is simply not possible or far less likely are reliable.

Exceptions are found mainly in Scania, Halland and Gotland (jag sa Gotland, inte Götaland).

It's probably the adaption you spoke of. If Gotland is an exception, it can't be the Finnish influence, as there is N1c influence in Gotland (on a similar level to Blekinge and likely some Svealand areas). The typical stereotype about Finns is usually that they are pale as ghosts. :D But according to Karin Mark (ok, she wasn't always the most non-biased person, I know), Finns had the same skin type as the Swedes.

Seriously, some are cute. Not very attractive though because many of them having a piggish nose. But Swedish women are without a doubt over rated, its funny when americans and other people who never been to Sweden claim them to be the most beautiful of the world. I think the Swedes (and Norwegians) phenotypically are most similar to Northwest Germans and probably some Dutch groups. The Northern Germans I saw looked no different from your average Swede at all.

That's what I am noticing also. Northern Germans/Swedes/Norwegians/Dutch/certain English....they all look the same. I just think of them as a Classic Northern European phenotype overall.

Is it due to some Finnish-Uralic admixture or to a specific adaptation to the Swedish climate (with long dry summers that provide endless sunshine hours with plenty of UV in June-July, contrary to notoriously rainy Norwegian climate), I don't know. But as a rule most Swedes get sun-tanned without problem and do not have the fragile pinkish skin of their Danish, Norwegian, Low-Saxon or Scottish neighbours (same for the Finns BTW). Exceptions are found mainly in Scania, Halland and Gotland (jag sa Gotland, inte Götaland).

I notice this also. Most people I've met here in the US with lots of Swedish in their ancestry do have a naturally golden look about their skin. They aren't as fair-skinned as the Norwegians or Germans....or the Brits. It always struck me as counter-intuitive, but I'm glad to see others have noticed the same thing.

Actually, South Sweden/Denmark is the Germanic and Scandinavian heartland. It's where the Scandinavian haplogroup I1 is said to have evolved.

The Geats (Götar) lived in South Sweden, while the Swedes (Svear) lived in Central Sweden. The areas are still called Götaland (South) and Svealand (Central) today. When the Swedes and Geats merged into each other, they annexed the northern parts of modern Sweden and called it Norrland ("northern land"), just like how they also annexed modern Finland and called it Österland ("eastern land"). Despite being the greatest area of whole Sweden, Norrland is and has always been a very sparsely populated area, and only something like 15 percent of all modern Swedes live up there. Modern Northern Swedes, northern Norrbotten excepted, are mainly Swedes genetically, with only a little more Finnish (and Saami?) input than the average Central Swede.

It is likely a fact that the Swedes found the place relatively late though, and that other peoples (Finns and Saamis?) probably lived there before.

Interesting that into the plot posted by Mr. Agrippa - Dalarna appears as an outside genetic area - even when it is well known the Swedish 'anthropologists' of the 30s defined the region as the core of "Swedish Nordic look" (Dalarnas folk). Southern Sweden they claimed it as being a "Borreby" or "Cromagnid" extension of Denmark. Now I would love to hear an explanation for that. ;)

I mean no offense, but I honestly don't get the fascination with Swedish women. Most guys I know think Swedish women are amazing and a quick search online will reveal that beauty-wise they're probably the most revered women in the world, but I really don't understand why. For starters, unlike many of my countrymen I don't have an obsession with the blonde-hair/blue-eyes combination, but more than that I'm not really attracted to the baby-face type and it seems many Swedish women look like that. Østerdalen wich was considered the most core "Nordic" area in Norway also had a large amount of Forest Finns.

Yes. I believe height was the main factor to why some areas were "less" and "more" Nordic. If the Eastern Finns had the same nutrition and thus the same average height as the Western Finns, they'd likely be similar to Denmark and western Finland. He's an ethnic Baltic Finn btw, a Tornedalian in fact. A Finnish minority, mainly in Norrbotten Province. Unlike the recent immigrant Finnish group (SwedenFinns), the Tornedalians are native to Northern Sweden, as a result of arbitrary border disput between Russia and Sweden in the 19th Century when Sweden lost Finland to Russia, though, Åland Islands (with ethnic Swedes) stayed until Finnish independence to the Russian hands. (Now part of Finland).

Even athough being a Finnic national minority of Sweden, Tornedalingar on avarege do not look distinct from Ethnic Swedes.
