Do Americans use sunscreen when they go to the beach or if they know they're going to be out in the hot sun for a while?

tan is an unhealthy practice promoted by Jewish to spread skin cancer among white Europeans.

Nordic-looking people with pink skin have no business going out in the sun. Stay inside and be butthurt during Summer months. It's what's best for everyone.

Germanic people tan quite well actually.

Some do, some don't. Depends on phenotype and whether or not they're smart enough to use protection.

Yes, unless they want to seem "cool".

I've been avoiding the sun for some years and I have a deficit of vitamin D. At least it's not skin cancer.

I avoid the sun as well. It gets quite tricky for us who live in South America and the sun is extremely strong. I have to wear sunscreen all year round not to get sunburnt, even in winter. It's a pain in the arse.

I wear winter clothes during all the year. I don't really expose myself.

Really? How do you manage with the heat during summertime? For me it's impossible. I live in Buenos Aires and the humidity makes it a burning hell.

1 - I live in the coast so the temperature range is lower, and we also have the winds that come directly from the south pole sometimes.
2 - I've been training it since I was 10. :D

1- oh, don't hate me :( You can still move to my city, I don't really care, even tho I'm against immigration/migration to where I live. Argies are cool. Argentine people come to my city during the summer too.
2- In school I was known as "the guy that uses the school's winter uniform during the entire year".

1- Special Apricity treament! lol Actually my Brazilian friends say that on average we're not so cool when we go on holiday to your beaches :P . I've never been to Brazil yet. But I'm planning to meet with friends there this summer.

2- Yes, well, same here. People like us that don't like the sun are seen as nutters. There's always a lovely person that goes: "You should definitely sunbathe. :nono: You're way too pasty".. No thanks... don't want to get cancer, I'll pass.

I suppose there's a difference between going to the beach and sunathing to coal on purpose.

1- My friends live in Sao Paulo and Chapeco. They basically said that we leave litter on the beaches =p . I am embarrassed to hear that...
Of course, we also tease one another all the time, you know, the typical playful rivalry between "brazucas" and "boludos" lol.

2- I see.... you live by the beach and you dislike it... Well at least, looking at the bright side, the climate is cooler ;)

1- Chapecó is nice, I live in the same state. I traveled to São Paulo (the city) and I hated it, the air quality was disgusting and yuck, many other things. I made a thread about it.

2- I like to watch the sea. I just dislike all that sand and sun.

Maybe they're trying to be diverse and prevent whiteness in people.

My friend always says Rio de Janeiro has nothing on Chapecó lol. He really loves his city. I always tease him and thell him it's because Chapecó is close to Argentina =P.

Moderate tanning shouldn't be a problem. I personally can't wait to hit the beach :)

I'm an American and I don't need sunscreen, I tan nicely. No one in my family has ever had skin cancer. I'm Spanish-American.

I hardly ever go outside during peak sunshine hours. If I have to for any length of time, will usually wear sunscreen. Definitely do NOT feel butthurt about staying inside, either :) I start to become happier around this time year as summer will start to wane pretty soon and Fall will set in usually around mid-October. YAY!!!!! I love being outside in the colder months :)

Answer from a country were we are used to sun.

I have born with very pale skin (although I have raven hair), my butt is still there to witness it. However if you take sun daily your skin becomes darker in an healthy way and the right amoung of sun improves your mood and gives you more vitamine D.

A long-time exposure is mostly irreversible. You need to stay 2-3 years without sun to return of your original paleness. If, like I do, you stay 3 months a year on the beach, an only winter is not enough to lose totally your tan.

To tan well you must expose slowly to sun, cover yourself with an umbrella and use sunscreen cream.
In a secondtime you can substitute the sunscreen cream with salt water. Sea water improves the tan, but you must be already tanned to don't burn. Sea water also fight the cellulite.
In a third time you can take sun directly while bathing in the sea.

I haven't been to a beach since 2009 and I'm still tanned on the exposed parts. In Southern European summer even daily outside activities are enough to make you light brown :D

That's true, to don't tan in S. Europe you should not go with bikes or motorbikes, nor walking... nothing. :D Neither staying in a car with the sun outside.

Australia is not a place for N. Europeans, let's send there S. Europeans. We are more resistent and won't die from skin cancer. :D

I tan ok from prolonged low or moderate levels of exposure, but a couple or three of hours in bright sunlight causes me to burn and peel, as i was reminded recently to my distaste :(.
Thinking about it, when you see pictures of laborers and agricultural workers from a century ago or more they usually still seem to wear relatively heavy clothing, can understand why - being a bit too hot is better than cooking yourself in the sun when you're out working in it many hours a day for a long time.
