View Full Version : Is your main phenotype based on your mother

Hello there i just though about an intresting example lets say your ethnical mothers side will be Uralic and your fathers Germanic so racially you will be based on your mothers ethnicity's wile that let say your father is (Scandinavian) just adds the admixture to your phenotype, so you would be Uralic but with some nordic feautres as if it was the opposite when your mother is Scandinavian and father Uralic you would be nordic but with Uralic admixture and as we can see that the fathers of any child just add admixture to your ethnicity but nothing else as you are fully based on your mothers phenotype.

Even so when the sperm achieves to get to the egg it will just activate it to reproduce and add some of their dna even soon the mothers embrion will develope by itself. Then if your genes will skip in to diffrent generations thats another possibility that you get 2 predominant genes but from random ancestors as in this image:

So thats true that mothers genes are more predominant :D actually but the genotype combinations could be random, i just have a sensation that i have a BD combination from my mothers dad and dads grandmother

Well, my brother is basically 50-50 of mother and father and my half sister is closer to my father than to her mother. I think is more random

But could it acctually be that you recive random genes from diffrent ancestors, so lets say i look very much as my grandfather from my mothers side including my grandmother so probably i get a combination of BD Genotype ;-)

The example above shows the four possible combinations for a single chromosome pair as it is passed down from parent to child. Our parents each carry two copies of each chromosome. However, they do not pass both copies down to us. We will randomly receive one chromosome from each parent. That means that there are 4 possible combinations that we can receive from our parents for each chromosome!;-)

It is.My mother is a Alpino Baltid-CM,and both me and my brother took her face shape and features.

My dad is Dinarid Alpine,And I don`t see much Dinarid traits in me.

quite true but sometimes you can addopt some features of your grandparents as many combinations can be predominant ;)

50-50 between both parents. East Med father + Alpine/Atlanto-Med mother = Pontid me.

It's a funny thing, genetics. I'd just read an article claiming that most features are not down to one parent, that chances are your physical phenotype (although they didn't use the word phenotype, it fits) is whatever features are most commonly shared between the two family lines. So if big noses are the more commonly shared feature for the males on both sides, chances are very high for you to have one as well.

It claimed that one of the only traits that are always passed down from mother to son was like.. blindness or color blindness or something like that, forgot the logical reasoning behind it, but it had to do with the fact of chromosome inheritance or something if you're a male? Meanwhile, it claimed that virtually every (other) feature, at least physically, was basically inherited from BOTH parents. I suppose that it may be a bit different if the parents' gene pools aren't relatively alike.

The King, I am

Men inherit more genes from their mothers than their fathers so chances are that on average they look more like their mothers. X has about 2000 genes (about 10% of the genome) whereas Y has only 200 which are mostly testicle-specific. In addition to that, all mitochondrial genes are from the mother.

I myself look more like my mother. Many have said that I have the skull shape of my father but my eyes, nose and lips are clearly from my mother. A bit more masculine version of them though :)

I have a combination. The shape of my face is closer to my mom's side, as is my coloring and eyes.
My eyebrows, nose, and mouth are closer to my father's.

yes that quite tru you absorb all of the mother mitchorondia in your gene pool but i mean its actually true that there are going to be 2 predominant genes randomly either from your grandmother or grandfather that will affect your phenotype im quite sure about it :D

Yes that's acctually quite true that you defenetly get 2 predominant genes from diffrent grandparents but not directly from your own parents for sure :D

These are just possible combinations, independent of how many children you may have.

Thats actually the combinations you could get when you inherit only 2 predominant random genes from your parents so it could be that you inherit your grandmothers from mothers side and father side just like and example im defently BD combination :D

I was wondering if there is really life inside mothers egg before the sperm activates it, i mean if it contains Dna so the egg is probably alive but its just awaits till it activates so it could reproduce right?

Yes you are very right there but i just wondered if there is really life inside mothers egg before the sperm activates it, i mean if it contains Dna so the egg is probably alive but its just awaits till it activates so it could reproduce right? When the mothers embrion is not fertilized it still contain dna inside so its still alive?:D
