So I got some questions about the J2 haplogroup. It seems to be carried around Mediterranean people, and I was wondering, where exactly does it originate? Is it a European gene? Thanks in advance!

It's homeland is outside of Europe in the Fertile Crescent, see map posted above.

However it's been in Europe for at least 6,000-8,000 years.

Maybe...we have no record of it there...yet. I would guess a lot of it came in the Iron age.

Well it's not like we have that many Neolithic samples. How many we have? Like half a dozen? lol

The geneticits all pretty much date it's initial entrance into the European population much earlier than the Iron age, but of course the Iron age could have substantially added to that.

J2 is common in Sicily and southern Italy.

I think some of it is Neolithic, some of it is more recent non-european, in them. Why? Because, how on earth would they STILL have so man Neolithic haplogroups? It just doesn't make any sense. I think, if it was entirely Neolithic, they should have no more occurrences of J2, than, say, Iberia. But, it is WAY higher in S Italy. I doubt that Sicilians are THAT Neolithic, with all the different populations pouring in.

J2 is actually pretty rare in the Non European groups that invaded Sicily, in particular the Moors and Saracens...they would have been predominately E-M81 and J1.

J2 is non-Jewish southeast Anatolian marker, definitely non-European.

What about people from Anatolia? There was plenty of flow, undeniable, not to mention the Jews, many of which converted to Christianity, in Calabria and Sicily. I'm SURE these contributed to J2.

It's never been found in any european DNA find.

Haplogroup J2 most likely originated in Anatolia or the Trans-Caucasus during the Upper Paleolithic.

Otherwise known as the homeland of the ancient Arameans and Assyrians.

Edit: Following what Eupedia said, it seems that its more of an Aramean, Hurrian, Hittite haplogroup and other bull worshippers.

That's because the samples are low....we need samples from the Southeast during the Neolithich and later.

Well yes of course, Anatolians carry a shit ton of J2. It's believed to originated in Eastern Anatolia.

J2 and E-V13 are superior.

"East Mediterranean" haplogroups in Europe are correlated to Dictatorship and power, and meglamania.

Hitler/Napoleon/Stalin all carried them.

We need to uncover the bodies of ancient dictators..

J2 originated in the Caucasus

It is likely that J2 men had settled over most of Anatolia, the South Caucasus and Iran by the end of the Last Glaciation 12,000 years ago

but maybe sir R1 knows better, let's wait
