I see what people mean about the optimism of sunrise, but I do like sunset. The hours after sunset are generally more free and relaxing, whereas the peace after sunrise doesn't last very long- the day and its obligations are already starting and intruding. I also just like nighttime and the dark anyway.

Sunset more so mostly because of the romantic element (seeing sunset with my girlfriend, etc.), but like both. Sunrise is more calming though as others have said. Sun rises quite late in winter here, so I do get to see it every day in the winter.
