Karachays have nothing to do with Alans. Alans were North Iranic people, Karachays are Caucasus natives who shifted to Turkic language.

He's just old, I can't see anything. Besides, there is no direct link between Karachays and Alans. Even the link between Ossetians and Alans isn't very clear so I don't expect a modern turkic-speaker to be more related to a mysterious and vanished Iranic people.
