Why a fiction? Genetic engineering is developing quite fast;)

The chickens we eat are mutants, as well the cows. Why not rabbits?

It are just the bigger examples of the Flemish Giants. A breed of rabbits dating back to the 16/17th century when the Dutch crossbreeded their (already quite large) inlandbreed of rabbits with large rabbits from South-America.

What is the purpose of breeding such giant ones? Meat or just exotic pets?

In those days the meat, Dutch entrepeneurs where trying to dominate the global market for rabbitmeat. Nowadays it is rather their uniqueness I guess that makes people keep them.

At least they can't sold cats instead of these giant rabbits. Something that happens as far as I've heard :D

They don't need to catch rats. They take sleeping babies and puppies.

You could ask the cats if they want to join the Priestress of Frya then.

Actually, the cat is indeed sacred to Frya.

Sad story, get out hankies…..

I used to have a pet rabbit as a child called Snowy, he was black, he used to be my best friend, we would watch telly together, he would sleep on my bed, we would……..that’s about it really rabbits don’t do a great deal.

Anyway he used to shit all over the carpet, so my dad decided that Snowy would have to go…..I was distraught but my dad gave him to a friend of his who said he would “take care of him”, he pulled the poor little bastards neck and stuck him in a pot……

There’s a moral there somewhere, don’t shit on other people’s carpets is the closest I’ve got but I’m sure there is a more profound one….

For Liffrea

(a translated song of a Dutch comedien, about the dissapearance of his rabbit when he was still a little boy)

It was Christmas-morning 1961, I still remember it well
My rabbit cage was empty
And Mom said that I couldn’t go play in the shed
And that if I was a good boy and go out and play
I would get a treat

She didn’t know where “Flappie” could be either
She would ask Dad, but because he was busy
In the bikeshed, I better go out for an hour
And search for “Flappie”, as he would probably be out on the lawn somewhere

[Chorus]
But I had closed the cage, hadn’t I
Like I did every night
I had even gone back there last night
I don’t know why, but I did
I had been in front of the cage for a long time
As if I already knew what I know now

It was Christmas Day 1961, and we were all looking for “Flappie”
Dad was joining us in the search
At the trees, near the water, but not in that bikeshed
Because “he could not possibly be there” and I agreed
We searched all together, until it was time for coffee, family drinking coffee
But I didn’t want any
I was thinking of “Flappie” and how it could freeze terribly at night
My little head bowed, huge tears of sorrow

[Chorus]

It was Christmas Day 1961, there was lots of noise at dinner
But I didn’t care
I was thinking of “Flappie”, my own dear “Flappie”
Where would he be, I couldn’t eat a bite
Then when after soup the main course was to be served
My father spoke, utterly amused: “Look Youp, there is Flappie!”
I can still see the silver plate, and there he was in 3 pieces
And for the first time in my life I saw the horrible man my father was

I went to bed kicking and screaming
And spend the first hour crying on my bed
I stood at the top of the stairs one more time, cursing
And shouted “Flappie was mine!”
I stared out of the window for a long time
But the cage was empty and deserted

It was Boxing Day 1961, Mother probably still remembers that vividly
Father’s bed was empty
And I told her she could not go in the shed
And if she’d be a good girl and go out and play
She would get a treat..:D
