Well this one is for our new member Blood Trinity who I assume has some kind of a good vinyl library since he has some Genesis in his library. :) As for the rest of you, in case you have no idea what I am referring to: prior to CDs and cassette tapes, there was such a thing as vinyl LPs. Got some? If so, what? Show us!

I have kept all of my LP's as well as some that were my father's. My Da ended up having quite the eclectic taste in music from Classical to Jazz to Rock. The Peter Frampton classic that I own was his! Go figure. :thumb001:

Here's a very wee sampling of what I have:

I have an estimated 2000 to 3000 vinyl long-playing records dating from 1948 to about 1990. The vast majority of them are of instrumental performances of music ranging from late Mediæval through Renascence and Classical to
Romantic and post-Romantic. Also included are around 100 instrumental recordings of Indian ragas, mostly on the sitar, surbahar, sarod and the sarangi.

Vocal recordings make up perhaps 20% of my vinyl recordings, almost entirely operatic: everything from solo recitals of operatic arias to complete operas .
Some of the artists are little known [in this country, anyhow] such as Leyla Gencer, and some of the operas are obscure, such as Jacopo Peri's "Eurydice"
[ca. 1600] and "Anush" by Arman Tigranian.

The rest of my collection of recorded music ranges from Edison cylinders, about 1900-1929, recorded on wax and on nitrocellulose, 78-90 r.p.m. shellac disc records of which I have somewhere around 4000, several hundred audio cassettes, and perhaps 1000 + or - 100 or so CD's .

No, since I don't own a gramophone to play them. However my man has quite big collection. Many of the Black/Death Metal releases today have vinyl versions.

Between the missus and myself, we've probably got several hundred LPs sitting in crates in the basement. I thought they'd just molder there, but we might be picking up a turntable with a USB port so as to rip albums to MP3. Now, I don't like MP3s (the compression algorithm makes the music sound like it's coming through a tin horn), but I was just able to rescue about 150 or so LPs from my workplace (a high school). They were literally tossing them in the dumpster!

Many of us on the faculty scrambled out to save them. Some are from the 1950s or even older, and contain things that have never, and I mean never, made it onto CD. Things like, oh, famous actors reading historical documents; audio travelogues; ethnic music from all over the globe (I snagged several covering Europe); even plays. Oh, much music as well, but that's secondary in my mind. If I can rip the good stuff, I can play it for my history classes. I shudder to think how many priceless treasures ended up in the dump. Damned stupid administrators!

My collection is rather small, I got them cheap from a sales booth.

I have a few boxes of mostly classic and acid rock from the 1960s until the early 80s when I switched to cassettes. Unfortunately, until I can fix or replace my record player, it is all going to waste. I keep threatening to have an embarrassing music party featuring some of the cheesier LPs of the 1970s. Or maybe hold an electric koolaid acid test emphasizing early Jefferson Airplane.

I have a bunch of them. Mostly classic rock. I also have a record player...I even have a couple of those silly carry-along ones that you can take anywhere.

I got most of the LPs from my mom, but I have bought a lot myself as well.

I worked for a record store when I was in college during the middle 70's. I still have about 400 vinyl albums from that time, and I gave so many more away. The records that got trashed from too many parties I gave to friends, buy I wish I had still kept them, scratches and all.

I have many Vinyl's that date back to the early and mid-1950's. They were actually given to me as a gift a couple years back by this war veteran who served in Korea. He was a bad-ass. But he's deceased now. Anyways the Vinyl's are "The Chantels- Maybe", "Roy Hamilton- You can have her." and a few more oldies.

Cool thread. :D
I use to have close to 1,000 vinyl records but have narrowed it down to 300 or so. Everything spanning 1950's/60's Jazz, Rock of all genres, Brazilian music, sound effects records, Pop; you name it, I probably had it at one time or another...
