Anders Andersen and his wife Kari Arnesdatter came from Etnedal in Valdres, Oppland County, Norway to Eresfjord in Romsdal in the late winter of 1839. Their new friends called him Valdres-Anders. Anders was born 12 Nov 1804 on Nedre Haug, Bruflat, Oppland County, Norway the son of Anders Gulbrandson and Tharand Olesdatter. He married 16 Oct 1828 Kari Arnesdatter in Bagn, Oppland County, Norway. Kari was born 2 May 1805 in Bruflat, Oppland County, Norway the daughter of Arne Knutson Søerfields and Siri Arnesdatter.
