Both brunets and blondes equally represent the French but the pics selected for your samples are not that good.

Accidentally voted for second pic. Really I think both in equal measure.

Its very hard to say actually. The first pic is more representative of Southern France, and the second of the North. Plus with lots or internal migration, and foreign immigration you see all sorts of phenotypes all over France.

Both, though the first set I associate it more with the Iberians than with the French.

A tad bit the first series of pictures, but really both once you discard the more marginal phenotypes.

Grenier and Valls are not ethnic french. You can find both groups, but the first seems more Iberian and the second group are not very fair eihter. I´ll vote for the second group, because they look more french, in traits, than the first one.

I didn't post Manuel Valls, and where's the evidence that Grenier isn't ethnic French?

Sorry, you posted Fillon.

Fillon's mother is Basque, but has a French surname (Soulet) and thus can be considered a native of SW France. And where is this interview with Grenier then? Wikipedia is very thorough about these things, and makes no mention of him having foreign ancestry whatsoever. Anyway, apart from those two, are the rest at least legitimate examples of Mediterranean-looking French in your opinion?

Fillon's has basque ancestry and so I do not consider him as a "français de souche".

English wikipedia is horrible., But I remember that i saw this interview that Grenier gave for Channel +, where he spoke of his origins. He is not 100% French.

Like the surname Hollande, assumes that he has a Dutch origin.

IMO, you took a swarthy spectrum of the French population. A typical French, would be Anthony Réveillèire. He, to me, is the most common French that you can find. The other types you can find, but they are not the most representative stereotype of the French people

I wasn't suggesting per se that either sample was average for France; rather, which of the two is more common?

I didn´t say was your intention. Like i said before, i voted for group 2, because in facial traits, they look more french. Especially where i live.

Because contrary to what many people think, our traits are distintictive and here on the forum, from what I read, the members tend to associate us with Spanish, when in fact the country that is closest to France, is Switzerland

Exactly! Also most of blondes (in pictures) are not blondes, but dyed brunettes (most with dark eyes even).

In my experience from meeting them, they usually look like some of the people from the 2nd one but with darker pigmentation. Like a pigmented version of this guy (with dark hair and brown eyes) are usually the most
common among them:
http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140814010427/wrestling-fanfiction/images/3/36/Jules_Plisson.jpg
Although some of the people in the second set do not look specifically French even if they were pigmented, like Marine Le Pen, for example (looks more northern/more specifically general northwestern European IMO). Some of the people from the first set also look off.
This woman looks more Spanish/even North African than French:
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8f/Audrey_Tautou_Cannes_2012_(cropped).jpg
This is quite typical and not necessarily "too dark" for a French person, either:
