I fell in love with Norway during the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics and I've never looked back. She is breathtaking as she is majestic and sweet as she is charming. Definitely one of my "places I'd like to visit before I die" places. :)

Gerd is a woman, she was one of the Lebensborn children or 'Tyskerunger' as they are called in Norway, her mother was Sámi and her father was German, Gerd used to be a common first name for females in Norway.

I agree with this statement, the only thing that Estonia has common with Latvia and Lithuania is 50 years of recent history. While there's more than 1000 years of history between Estonia and Scandinavia. Estonian vikings are mentioned in the Icelandic sagas, for example. I also made a similar post (http://www.theapricity.com/forum/showpost.php?p=37735&postcount=27) a year ago, which explains my point a bit more.

Anyway, back to the topic. I think that Norwegians are fine people and have a magnificent history. I don't relate to Norwegians as much as I do to Finns and Swedes for example, but they're fellow Northerners, thus good people.

Well, I can hardly claim to be unbiased or objective about it. My maternal ancestry is entirely Norwegian, I am a Life Member of Sons of Norway, and I am a Past President of my local lodge.

A nineteenth century rustic dialect of Norwegian was spoken in my home until my grandmother died in 1966. We celebrated Lillejulaften, Julaften, og Jul in the Norwegian way, and I was accustomed to Norwegian cooking from early childhood .

I enjoy singing the Norwegian songs in the Sons of Norway songbook at our meetings because many of them were sung in my home during my boyhood.
My brother wanted nothing to do with "that old-country stuff" and ridiculed the songs, but I loved them and learned to sing some of them, especially the Christmas carols.

I still serve Norwegian food and drink at Christmas dinner, though my guests are Scottish-American, Irish-American, and Peruvian !

Alas, I have never visited Norway and probably never shall because I hate flying and dread the idea of a long flight across the Atlantic Ocean. If I could get there by ocean liner as my relatives did in the 1930's and 1940's, I am sure that I would enjoy it greatly.

Norwegians are great! They never cause anyone any trouble, have a rich propserous country, good relations with neighbouring countries, great culture.

Plus the Norwegian resistsance did its part in the world wars with the British and has always been a good ally. Norway sells gas to Britain, but they don't threaten to cut it off like Russia do with Eastern Europe.
Norway has beautiful landscapes and places, the people are pretty knowledegable and know a lot about the world.

People in England don't tend to have strong views on Norwegians, but there is a lot of respect for the Nordic countries on a whole, I guess we see you guys as distant relatives.

Well I finally voted for "arrogant and self-centered" due to my trip in this beautiful country...
I must admit that in despite of a ton of astonishing landscapes (having a snow ball fight at 29°c is not so common ;), this trip has been spoiled by norwegians behavior.
Visiting norway was a kind of childhood dream for me and I even begun to learn Bokmål. But we felt a great animosity against us the whole stay long, people were looking down on us (specially when they saw our french licence plate car), playing rudely shoulders on shops without apologizing... They were really unpolite !
The best was when I asked a question in a touristic place to an employee in english (my norwegian was quite poor) who answered me in norwegian :D
And I won't talk to you about uneducated children who don't know the word "unnskyld" when they crush your feet...
The only friendly people I met were 2 metalheads (wearing Satyricon shirts :thumb001:) in a camping. They were quite pleased to see french of the same age visiting their country.
And to finish it was a so expensive trip, the only hotel we slept in was one of the cheapest of the country at Kristiansand for 87€ !!!

I agree... We actually visited several places, some touristic and some not. The finding was always the same, something like "we've got plenty of money, we don't need you". Ok but why not considering all the muslims immigrants the same way ? We saw a bunch of them there and I believe remembering that 100% rape cases in Oslo are caused by muslim-arabian community.
