We cannot really revive this sort of old Celtic identity because we have lost the linguistic basis for it. The linguistic basis was lost centuries ago. We did have people speaking Gaelic in Britain within historic memory and it can be revived in those areas where it was spoken (if people want this). However trying to revive lost identities is in my view a pointless exercise which will not yield anything authentic. How can we be certain who in Scotland today is a descendant of the Picts for example? Furthermore, how can those people who would support this movement be certain that they are not direct descendants of Saxons or Vikings?

Not really linguistically......I mean alot can be done to change that and also maybe like Rich Wagner with his German mythological plays/operas....could bring back a more romanticized Celtic culture that is modern. The British never did this nor the Irish which is why this culture is largely disappearing. I think it is horrible that it is disappearing but I do not hate the English for it. It is a mind boggle. Picts to me were a group of Celts....or pre-Indo-Europeans...who later adopted celtic culture. To me it is irrelevant as Island celtic culture has been and always will be associated with Northern Europe and Atlantic europe......infact celtic British/Irish culture is not related to Hallstatt culture which disappeared along time ago. British/Irish celtic culture is insular and related probably more to the Gauls than any other culture that existed back then.

To me Irish and British culture is more Atlantid-Scandinavian culture.

I really don't get why whoever made this page thought it'd be a good idea. It's obviously trying to make a point against instituting a sensible immigration policy today, but in doing so, it's providing very good justification to do so. Because, you know, the Anglo-Saxons coming to Britain didn't exactly have the most positive of effects on the local Celtic populace - particularly in England. It's a lot like how American liberals like to bring up that the Natives were here before us Europeans, and we all know how wonderfully that worked out for them. This whole self-flagellation fetish that liberals seem to have is, I'd say, the logical conclusion of moral universalism.

This makes me appreciate the Celts more, really.

That's because women were strong in Celtic society. Women had the same rights as men. Just look at my avatar Grace, the Pirate Queen or in Irish Gráinne Ní Mháille. There are lots of very strong women in Irish history and mythology. Some examples are Mebd the Queen of Connacht, Morrigan, Badb and Macha the Triple Warrior Goddess. More recently about 100 years ago Constance Gore-Booth, better known as the Countess Markievicz, who fought for Irish freedom and became the first woman elected to the British Parliament.

You're not from the UK, are you? Gaelic and Welsh and Irish are all still spoken as first languages. I think you're thinking of Cornish and Manx.

This is satire, pure and simple, and while it's absolutely hilarious, I feel the need to point out one discrepancy. My ancestors, the Angles, did not use Roman letters, they used the Anglo-Saxon futhorc. The Roman alphabet did not come into use in Britannia until after the Norman conquest.

Celts/Britons, or should I say Vortigern, sold their land to the Saxons in exchange for a Saxon princess. What men do for pussy...

No wonder Celts were pushed back on all fronts

Well the Irish did get their freedom. It's not like these "Celts" were one group all together. A lot of Welsh and Scots were with the British Empire they weren't there fighting with the Irish. There was never this great Celtic solidarity.

They all hate Irish people too. Infact I remember I met a Welsh girl from college, the biggest bitch I have ever met in my life LOL. By bitch I mean like really into herself and self absorbing type, but she was very attractive. I asked her out and once made the mistake of saying I had Irish ancestry [I didnt think she would have anything wrong with it but you never know].....she flipped out...it was bad enough I had ancestry from England but Ireland did it in LOL. She was weird but in a mean way too.

I stopped pursuing her, she was too much of a bitch for me to deal with. But it was odd as I have never encountered that before...I know in the old world Europe can be that way especially for germans and poles....or brits and irish people but here? LOL come on hahaha.

More recently about 100 years ago Constance Gore-Booth, better known as the Countess Markievicz, who fought for Irish freedom and became the first woman elected to the British Parliament.

 but men were more famous as national heroes  I give you st. brigit though.

You probably already know this, but most people here might not: they weren't Christians, either - the Anglo-Saxons were mostly pagans when they colonized England. Celtic influence was actually one of the major reasons why they converted.

You forget that we outnumber the Scots massively. It would also probably be the most unpopular war for centuries after the first couple of days when everyone realizes that it looked more fun in Braveheart than it is in reality. Keep it to football and movies. :P

Unless they had Snackbars! Then the Anglish would be in some deep Poo.

This Celtic First stuff could be interepreted as anti-technology, in which case they have a point. Anyway, it reminded me of this song:

I still hear the screams of my lover torn from me
Still taste the salt of her tears on my face
As they left me for dying my shattered corpse writhed
On a pyre of anger - I choked on the stench of disgrace.

Flint and bone are all we wield
Against the might of Roman steel
While eagles stare with mocking eyes
Their legions cut us down to size.

R'Vannith, R'Vannith, R'Vannith she cried
As the last of her kinsmen fell dead by her side
Oh why could I not stand with my warrior queen
There to share sweet release in a death swift and clean?

From out of the wildwood they came down upon us
These olive-skinned butchers that shone like the sun
With hate in their dark eyes they robbed us of our lives
But left me to weep when the slaughter was done.

Invaders came to violate - to subjugate and legislate
Put our homes and farms to fire to feed the greed of their Empire

R'Vannith, R'Vannith, R'Vannith I cried
As I grieved for the fallen - and wished I had died
I heard ravens laugh - stripping the flesh from her bones
Well fed by the Senate and People of Rome.

Two thousand years pass by - yet still they hold sway here
Their Empire is holy (its motives the same)
They have traded their spears for the cross that man fears
Those who nailed Him up high now rule in his name.

Invaders come to violate
To subjugate and legislate
Believing their forefather's crimes
Give them the right to twist our minds

R'Vannith, R'Vannith, R'Vannith we'll cry
When the last of our freedom is crushed by a lie
New legions of pious hypocrisy ride
To baptise us in blood (an unstoppable tide).
