Can anyone explain why this person JHarris has matching segments on 15 chromosomes with me? Is gedmatch even reliable?

GEDmatch is reliable, especially with matching segments.
General rule is, the longer the shared segments, the closer the relation, in the same way if you get long strands of x ancestry on Chromosome Viewers, it's probable recent ancestry (one relative of mine is triracial but from such an ancient mix he has about 2,000 different lines on 23andme).
Of course, any match indicates a degree of relationship, and this dude, apart from having a lot of matches, also has some long ones (11cm+, for example).

Segments on 15 chromosomes?? He is I1. He has an ftdna account but I dont have him as a relative. I assume he isn't sharing. I do have 5 other relatives that have Harris as one of their ancestral surnames.

Maybe he's a close cousin? I believe GEDmatch has a tool to roughly determine degrees of relatedness.

Here it shows how far back in generations

He doesn't have a 11cm match, he has at max 5-6cm of a match, the one who is 11+cm is Cracker not Harris.

My bad, misread. They're still both related to the degree of fourth cousins, though.

I'm related to 5 Cackler brothers on 23andme. You need to use 2 matches to use 'one to many' so I used him. I still find odd the segments on 15 chromosomes.

It's a curious result, the closer the relative the more chromosomes you will match on. After all your mother/father/sister/brother you will definitely share on 23 chromosomes. Sisters could share on 24 chromosomes.
But all his matches are miniscule. On 23andMe they would cut it off at 5cm, I'm now tempted to test a 4th-5th cousin and see how they match me.

Miniscule but manifold.

Put them together and it's a long segment xD

He actually shares longer but cut off segments with me on some chromosomes. Cackler shares a long segment on chromosome 8 and 12 only. But segments on 15 chromosomes is weird.

I am getting one of these kits  would be nice if I find out I am related to the old Irish King Niall of the Nine Hostages over 2 million men of Irish descent are related to him distantly hahaha.

Do it, there's quite a few that are related to them on 23andme from what I've read on their forum.

I am doing it.....I also have a surname from Norse Gaels so it would be interesting....also I wish to see if I score Finnish or Norse or Slavic at all..... or to what significance [I highly suspect not alot]. I predict 7/8ths Northern European [from British Islands, Scandinavia and Northern Germany] and 1/8th some southern euro.......from the french ancestry.

I got different ethnicity results from both 23andme and ftdna so take that as a pinch of salt. What is interesting is the "relatives" that you can share info with and try to find a connection down the lines. I was surprised to see that Stefan and I were related xD

Your ancestry composition at 23andme would put French in Northern European in the "French & German" category. But the French could reflect more Mediterranean scores in the gedmatch 3rd party calculators.

hmm I will try both then. The first one first though. I am 5/8ths British/Irish so I suspect the majority of my ancestry will show up on there.

23andme needs to change their ancestry composition, especially the French & German(should be separate) and Balkan. East European % is hidden in Balkan especially if you have South Slav ancestry.

Believe me I suspect my dad's family tree genetically has some southern euro....my grandmother looked alpine french but southern....I mean she was de-pigmented....I am not really sure though without taking a test but my dad looks southern european almost. My mother looks like someone you would see along the baltic coast or northern coast of germany......poles have spoken polish to her or germans german to her hahaha XD. I wish to see if my results collaborate with my family tree though....that is the whole reason of doing it.
I was going to take a test years ago but forgot about it so I will do one in the next month or so.

I did 23andme first then family finder on ftdna. Now I am waiting for my 37 marker y-dna test from ftdna. 23andme is quicker fyi.

Just do it, it's money well spent. My dad was the one who told me to do it actually. I will test him one day too xD

23andme went up in price now due to their health reports that are now available.
