I bought a bottle of my old favourite, Jean-Paul Gautier - Le Male.

So, I excitedly google searched all the listed ingredients:

butylphenyl methylproprional, coumarin, hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene, carboxaldehyde, linalool, alpha-isomethyl ionone, bht, benzophenone-3, limonene, cinnamal, citral, geraniol, eugenol, citronellol

Most of the above are hightly controversial. Some are listed as having effects on the CNS, being carcinogenic, of having mutagenic effects on sperm.

I was pretty amazed. One listed chemical fragrance is the same found in fabric conditioner brand 'Lenor', credited with extreme permanence, and lasting several washes, which explains why JPG Le Male sticks around for so long, and on clothes.

One chemical in the list has been banned from being sold as a perfume, and can only be sold as a 'fragrance', a lesser denomination.

http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTmNsSOESgERtAfgj_4QgN-pv1m91tyv_9ASvN6g4aIggeVqMA&t=1&usg=__oXQ2bAd3yG-zSZNe4d6GAlNffig=

For those who are unaware, JPG smells like a mid-90s gay club full of orange tanned queens wearing lime green tank tops, lycra and fluoro accessories.

Do not let that put you off. It is a winning fragrance, beloved of men and women. Honest. ;)

There's this thing called just not knowing where to quit:

http://www.toplessrobot.com/assets_c/2010/08/GNK10004-thumb-640x480.jpg

Fearless and inventive, Slave Leia Perfume by Genki Wear includes floral top notes of white peach, lily, bergamot, heliotrope, and raspberry that dry down to a warm sultry mix of cashmere woods, musk, and night-blooming jasmine.
http://www.toplessrobot.com/assets_c/2010/08/GNK10005-thumb-640x480.jpg

Classy and stylish, Eau Lando Cologne by Genki Wear is a potent mix of mandarin warmed with incense and lotus flower, exotic woods, dark violet and sensuous musk.

The question that torments me is why the Slave Leia bottle doesn't come in a tin bikini, if Eau Lando comes in a blue cape ?!?

First of all, I'm that kind of persons who likes using JUST 1 PERFUME during his/her lifetime. Lifetime...who knows but at least I keep using this perfume since ever. I'm in love with its smell and I gotta say there are not many girls using this, so my classmates, friends or family know everytime I'm around lol, even I 'play hide and seek'

I have always used the same, and I'm gonna still use the same:

So now you guys know how Liia smells like lol.

Before using a perfume, cologne or eau de toilette, its absolutely important to have a very clean skin, so the smell persists and lasts even more than predicted. :) Well, this is an obvious routine, right? First shower/bath and then use whatever kind of perfume for the body (splash, spray, perfumes, etc...).

Anyway, my point is, post 5 favourite perfumes the ones you mostly like/use. Also make sure there are winter and summer smells, you can mix your 5 choosen or just post 5 for summer, 5 for winter. As you like to. I'll start.

Smells, brands and perfumes for summer (order of use):

1. Calvin Klein, One. (Unisex)

2. Cerruti 1881 Femme

3. Lacoste Inspiration

4. Ralph Lauren Rocks

5. Yves Rocher, Rose Absolue

Smells, brands and perfumes for winter (order of use):

1. Burberry Weekend

2. Emporio Armani, Elle (been using it for many years now)

3. Hugo Boss Femme

4. Yves Rocher, Vanille Noire

5. Precious Moments, Oriflame (really cheap one for such smell!)

I mostly use: CK One (summer) and Burberry Weekend (winter).

I don't differentiate my fragrances in the seasons. I kind of just go by what a perfume would be appropriate for.: /

1.) Lust by Lush. It's gratuitous jasmine upon jasmine. And I think there are some other notes like rose and vanilla, but it's mostly jasmine, and jasmine is an aphrodisiac. Lust is a good one if you're getting all gussied up to go out with a man or if you're going out in hopes of meeting a man. ;) And it's $35 USD for a 1oz bottle of Eau de Parfum.

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/nd.10806.jpg

2.) Premier Figuier by L’Artisan Parfumeur. This is what I often reach for when I'm going to class or heading to my internship. It's light an crisp, not overpowering at all. Plus, it has the benefit of being the only fig-based fragrance that actually smells good on me. It also has notes of sandalwood and almond milk. It just smells pleasant without seeming too generic.

http://www.luckyscent.com/images/products/15203.jpg

3.) Delirium by Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab (perfume oil). It smells like crisp apples! This is another good one for everyday purposes because it's pretty light and a little on the playful side.

4.) Rosa by Santa Maria Novella. Pure, unadulterated rose. I think it's classy, and it's another one of my "dressing up" perfumes.

5.) Bryant Park by Bond No. 9. Because sometimes it's fun to smell like raspberries. This is a really unique fragrance. I get complimented on it a lot when I put it on.

http://www.brutworld.com/images/products/cologne.png

Since 1964, our brand has been interwoven in the fabric of America. BRUT is oftentimes the first fragrance bought by teenagers around the world, marking their transition to manhood. Since our inception, BRUT cologne has blossomed into a full product line complementing all stages of the male grooming process. Some qualities that most BRUT men seem to have been born with over the years include, but are in no way exclusive to, the following:
A man who defines his own style.
He is a man who believes in equality and being true to yourself. He is not driven by what others think of him. His determination and self-worth is motivated by staying true to himself and who he is. He accepts responsibilities for his actions, is comfortable with his decisions, and isn’t concerned about what other people think.
He is a man who sees possibilities and makes them happen. Who is always respectful of the opposite sex. Who understands the code of the gentleman and who is at ease with and courteous to people even though they’re different from himself.
He loves to win but realizes it’s not always about winning—sometimes it’s about the thrill of the hunt.
He has been the hundredth caller.
He is charitable and is always looking to give a hand to the downtrodden.
He is a leader of the young and always wants to makes things better for them.
He prefers things shaken, not stirred. But he will stir for others if that’s what they like.
He always learns from his mistakes, though he rarely makes them.
He has conviction, but is never convicted.
He hates false promises and always does what he says he is going to do.
He respects the opinions of others, but always makes up his own mind.
Don’t mistake his passion for anger, as there are very few things that truly upset him. He is the essence of man.

I believe in equality. :coffee:

Such a simple and inoffensive fragrance.

It was the successor to:

I previously used Armani Code:

http://scenttown.com/product_images/q/520/armani_code__73071.jpg

Now I use Acqua di Gio:

http://3.static.fragrancenet.com/images/photos/200x200/ACQUA_DI_GIO_M.JPG

But I don't use it much because I'm not even sure it works. I feel like pleasant smells just don't stay on me. I have oily skin, though; wouldn't that make a cologne stick to me even more?

Also, I can't really smell it after having had it for several days. I know that your nose stops noticing a smell after a while, but shouldn't I always be able to smell it for a half hour or so every morning?

I fail at cologne.

Let me clarify - it was actually the new Chanel Chance:

http://www.chanel.com/en_GB/fragrance-beauty/cms2export//Site6Files/P126420/P126420_LARGE.jpg

Unexpected, sparkling and romantic.

Allow yourself to be swept up in the whirlwind of CHANCE. Similar to the Eau de Toilette, the Eau de Parfum is an Unexpected Floral, created by Jacques Polge like a marvelous constellation.

An unpredictable balance that continually surprises. A constellation of scents, warmed up by Absolute of Vanilla, where Absolute of Exotic Jasmine and Iris are more pronounced. A mysterious alchemy accentuated by the intensity of the White Musk note.

Not quite the same, yet not completely different either... With the Eau de Parfum, CHANCE becomes rounder, more generous and more enveloping...like new love.

As if to echo its warmer character, the Eau de Parfum fragrance has a beautiful amber-coloured shade, while its bottle is adorned with a few touches of gold: gold replaces silver for the letters of the word CHANCE and on the neck of the bottle, and a delicate line of gold underlines the edges of the folding carton. The cap is made in silvery metal.

I had been hovering around the perfume section in Boots for quite a while, attracting the attention of security staff, testing everything out.

So I have a real thing about sweet orientals, the fragrances, I mean...

So, I like Egotiste by Chanel, the original which is no longer available in the UK.

I liked-ish Le Male by Jean-Paul Gaultier, and a few others.

I went to www.basenotes.net to find out what the link was.

Tonka bean, vanilla, sandalwood and a few others. I am learning as I go.

Anyway, on special offer was π by Givenchy, that's Pi, the number.

It is close to Gaultier's Le Male, but so not pungent, but very sweet and comforting, attractive to women. Tonka bean and benzoin approximate to vanilla.

To some it's sickly or feminine, but to me, it's just enough, and very reassuring.

http://www.perfumes-wholesale.com/Proimages/mpi.jpg

Only £17 for 30mls.

If you like the sweet thing, such as Joop!, One Million et al, then you might enjoy Pi as a simpler alternative. It whiffs at first but dries down nicely to a warm blanket.

I tend to dislike those labeled "sport" or "fresh" because I suspect they're made for people who don't like perfumes, but want to smell like they jumped out of the shower two minutes ago....My signature scent:

And some other really, really great perfumes for man.I have them all....

I'd love to try,but you need some serious knowledge for that,am I right?

Not really. You can just go to an herbalist store, one that will have essential oils in there, and just go and smell the oils, and pick out the ones you like. You can start with three, holding the bottles together to see how the scents will blend. You're then able to put them in a base oil of your choosing, jojoba oil is the nicest. If you want, you can make a cologne, or perfume out of them as well, but that's just alcohol, water and essential oils. The simplest way to start off is by making a perfumed oil.

Scent ideas for men are:

Woody, spicy and fresh green scents. Essential oil ideas are: bay, black pepper, cedar wood, fir, mint, rosemary, sage and sandalwood. Fruit and flower scents are able to be added in small quantities to produce depth of scent. Fruity scents that can be added successfully are bergamot, orange, lemon, lime, and even a tiny amount of vanilla, but that last one is not always a good idea. Floral scents that are a good choice are lavender, clary sage, rose otto, and neroli. But I wouldn't work with feminine scents until you had gotten more of a feel for the art.

To make a perfumed oil, take a dark colored 1 ounce bottle, either amber, cobalt or violet colored glass with a dropper in it, and add enough carrier oil to the shoulder of the bottle, or just below it. Add your essential oils, start with 5 drops of each scent you choose to start off with. For starters, don't use more than 3 scents. Bear in mind that some essential oils overpower some scents, and some don't smell very strongly in a blend. Cap the bottle quickly and shake it strongly for a minute, uncap and smell. If something about it doesn't smell strong enough, or *right* add what feels appropriate. It's not an exact science, it's all about finding what smells pleasing to *you*. And bear in mind that it will change according to how your body chemistry is, even on that particular day. So, back to the making of the perfumed oil. I would let it cure for a few days before using it, but you are able to use it right away. Just dab some on your pulse points like a woman does, you don't need a lot.

According to the website:

Its unique fragrance based on Lemon, Patchouli, White Thyme and Rosemary which revives and refreshes

It's quite heavy on the lemony scent.

The also make a similar one in a blue bottle but the smell isn't me.

This reminds me of an Escada perfume I bought over 10 years ago. It had the same shape as this and I think it was Lily of the Valley. Stunning scent. I think Escada brings out one of these perfumes a year, the shape of the bottle stays the same and the colour changes, and after that never again the same scent.

It was this one and it was a limited release in 2000. Pity because I really liked it.

I used to use commercial perfumes. I used to wear Clinique Happy, along with Pacifica fragrances: Spanish Amber, Tahitian Gardenia, and Persian Rose. But since I've gotten into essential oils, those all smell fake and chemically to me, so now I make my own scent blends based on what smells good to me when I make my creams and body oils. The essential oils in my kit that I really like are: Rose Otto, Neroli, Lavender, Roman Chamomile, Ylang Ylang, Jasmine, Orange, Bergamot, Petitgrain, Patchouli, Clove, Sandalwood, Frankincense, Vanilla, Palmarosa, Myrrh, Helichrysum, Sweet Marjoram, Sweet Basil, Geranium Rose, Clary Sage, Atlas Cedar and Lemon. Now I don't use all of these at once, but I have used most of them at one time or another with great enjoyment on my part. It's satisfying to be able to make your own scent blend based on precisely what smells nice to you at that time. And it's also really interesting to see how different people react to the same scent when it's in the bottle, and how it changes depending on the person. I made a scent blend once that my mother did not find appealing, but which pleased me immensely. She smelled it in the bottle, and applied it, smelled it on herself, and then smelled where I had used it on me. And she told me that it smelled the best on me. I think that that is because essential oils are able to change and transmute themselves in the body chemistry of the person using them, so that you use exactly what you need. The science of scent is incredibly fascinating.

This sounds very cool, Frigga! I thought about making my own perfumes but never really knew where to begin. I mean seriously, if you knew how much I spend on commercial perfumes, you would think I am crazy. Also the thing I don't like about commercial perfumes is that a lot of people smell the same - even if the smells are great. Take for example Lady Million of Paco Rabanne. My mother uses it. I think it smells good. But when you go somewhere (school, work, out etc.) you can smell the same fragrance on a lot of people. I really dislike that.

As for me, I don't wear perfume any more (or very rarely at least). I prefer to go with my natural body odor.

Things I've tried in the past:

That was VERY popular among goths :D So being a fashion victim some 10 years ago, I must have consumed 3-4 big bottles of it :D
Now, when I smell it on someone else, it makes me want to throw up :p That's how much I've been fed up with it :D

Kinda cute and powdery (that's what I liked about it) but too sweet in the end. It was cute for a while but I wouldn't wear it again.

Absinthe, I just ordered some essential oils from Living Libations!! I got the Rose Otto, as it's the best price for that essential oil that I've seen, that doesn't look like it's been cut with inferior oils.

I'm going to get some of the Mastic, you've intrigued me now. :D

In case anyone was wanting something to guide themselves into essential oil blending, here's what I did yesterday.

I made two blends for some online friends from here. What I knew about the first one was that she was a floral personality, and a deep thinker, but prone to depression. Her favorite scents are lilac, lavender etc. I don't have lilac essential oil, so I had to try to approximate it as best as I could. I also wanted to add things to loft her spirits. So after making the cream with rose infused oil, cocoa butter, coconut oil, shea butter beeswax and neroli hydrosol, I started with the florals first. I used Rose Otto, Neroli, Jasmine, Ylang ylang, and a small amount of Geranium Rose. I balanced the scent with some spicy base notes, I used Sandalwood, Frankincense and 1 drop of Black Pepper. I then added some herbal tones with Clary Sage, Petitgrain, Lavender, and Basil linalol, with a small amount of Grapefruit to perk her up. I then added drops of the aforementioned oils to balance it into an intensely feminine scent with subtle undertones of spice. I didn't write down the exact drops unfortunately, but I did keep a small amount so hopefully I'll be able to use it as reference in the future if need be.

For the second one, she told me she wanted something spicy. I started off with 1 drop each of the following: Clove, Nutmeg, Black Pepper, Ginger, and added small amounts of them again as needed to make a spicy blend, being mindful that these are rubefacients many of them, and I don't want her to get red skin if I can help it. I then added an Amber and Sandalwood oil blend, Sandalwood, Frankincense, Petitgrain, Patchouli, Bergamont, Vanilla, Jasmine, Ylang ylang and finally Myrrh. This blend is intoxicatingly seductive. I named it Spicy Seduction.

Hope this is helpful for anyone who is interested. :)

I was given this as a gift, and I passed it on to another friend. It was too heavy and indiscrete for my taste.

I love this one! But I prefer the lighter version; Daisy Eau So Fresh

http://www.allurabeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Marc-Jacobs-Daisy-Eau-So-Fresh-Eau-de-Parfum-1.png

The normal version is a bit heavy like you said, but this one I really like. Unfortunately they are only made in 75 ml and 125 ml bottles - that's a bit too much for me, so I never bought one..

And about the natural oil/fragrances, I found out that we have a shop here that sells natural fragranced oils. I wanted to buy one but the shop doesn't allow people to open/smell the bottles. They didn't even have testers. :(

Then I found out that the 'commercial perfume shop' in my town had a sale going... :D And I couldn't help myself. These are my new purchases:

That's my favorite as well.

I think they changed the formula a bit, it has less of a spicy smell (http://answers.sephora.com/answers/8723/product/P201400/questions.htm) now, which it too bad. Some people say it still smells the same, idk.

I don't use perfumes generally.Sport deodorants are better and don't hit the other person in the nose as hard.

Usually if they are citrus-based they often smell cheap like air/toilet freshener, and they pong badly, and that is most sport deodorants, designed to mask odours.

...

I am not very adventurous. I used to wear Chanel's Egoiste (original not Platinum), and at one point, the powerful vanilla-mint of Jean-Paul Gautier's Le Male (which seems to last forever) which is very attractive to women, I understand, although it can be overpowering for some.

Currently, I am wearing the very cheap "Citrus & Wood" by Yardley (http://www.basenotes.net/fragrancereviews/fragrance/26132240&rt=3), which, after drying down a little, is an almost perfect copy of Hermes' "Terre D'Hermes", which costs four times the price.

Fragrances are a funny thing. They often work by combining something that smells really pleasant with something that smells absolutely vile, like natural jasmine, which is sweet-smelling but also contains a small smelly component, the chemical "skatole", which smells of shit. Clearly, this is to attract insects of various types, but it is usually the combination that makes the attractive frisson for the human nose.

I will say this, there is a famous Indian oil blend called "majmua attar", which is a blend of four oils. This really is my favourite. It contains the laundry scent vetivert as a main note, and it does rely upon something like a combination of opposite notes, some that stink, and some that are are more or less sweet-smelling.

Majmua contains essence of baked river mud. :scared: However, it works.

When I smell it on woman, it aggravates my upper respiratory system.

Shalimar (http://www.basenotes.net/ID10211632.html) is said to have bergamot (mega-stimulating), tonka bean (lots of bio-active coumarin) and iris (orris root) in it. The latter being a fragrance fixative, to which many people are allergic (http://www.drjorgensen.com/docs/orris_root.pdf).

Orris root is, most likely, the allergenic component.

Bergamot is famously found in Earl Grey tea. Coumarin is around, in lot of products. It was banned as a food additive in the US in 1954, and the EU has been trying to regulate Danish pastries (lol?) because of their high cassia (and coumarin) content.

Yes I know Jean Paul Gautier is gay but still it's a very masculine scent, he formulated it well. A bit expensive but I picked it because it has lavender in it, which hopefully would let those around me to calm down (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22612017). Also this is very potent stuff, just 2 sprays can be over-powering and it's duration is 8 hours. It's more of a winter scent.

It is amazing, and a lot of women it buy for their husbands. Vanilla-mint-lavender (http://www.basenotes.net/ID26120972.html). There is a similar scent: Pi by Givenchy (http://www.basenotes.net/ID26121288.html), which I find to be slightly acrid by comparison.

A nasty twist to my "Cherry in the Air" purchase: I put some of it on when I bought it four hours ago and have developed the most horrible allergy to it. My eyes are watering, my nose is running, my chest is wheezing and I'm sneezing non-stop. I had to take some anti-histamines. The smell has infiltrated everything around me. I've put it up for sale on a website.

I don't wear a scent everyday. When I do, these are a few of my favorites.

Glow by JLO (2002) - Coty, Inc. (Endorsed by Jennifer Lopez)
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/907/xmFYvG.jpg (https://imageshack.com/i/p7xmFYvGj)

It smells pristine beyond measure-- like Dove soap with a sprinking of bubbly pink grapefruit and tea roses. Pretty, delicate and absolutely lacking in sweetness, funk, or heaviness of any kind. Clean, sexy, fresh. My signature scent.

Notes: Orange, grapefruit, jasmine, orris, irises, vanilla, musk

House of Creed

Creed apparently loves the scent of Bulgarian Roses and so do I! I think in my next life I'll come back as a Bulgarian... Anyway! Two of my favorites from House of Creed:

1. Love in White (2005)
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/537/hZwCrl.jpg (https://imageshack.com/i/exhZwCrlj)

The scent is inspired by Olivier Creed's travels on the high seas, "an element of nature that connects all humanity." and according to Creed, the bottle evokes "the shoulders of a feminine figure as she rests upon white sands caressed by the ocean's gentle current. A silver ribbon at the neck conveys sunshine dancing on the Aegean sea".

A portion of the proceeds from sales of Love in White in America are donated to the United National Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which works toward world peace. A premiere bottle of the scent was given by Creed to actress and goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Angelina Jolie.

Notes: Spanish orange zest, Rice husk, Egyptian iris, Italian white jasmine, Daffodil, Magnolia, Bulgarian rose, Vanilla, Ambergris, Mysore sandalwood

2. Fleurissimo (1956)

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/673/1bT6GJ.png (https://imageshack.com/i/ip1bT6GJp)

Commissioned by Monaco's Prince Rainier III for his future wife, Grace Kelly, on her wedding day.

Notes: Bergamot, Tuberose, Bulgarian Rose, Violet, Iris, Ambergris.

Beautiful - Estée Lauder (1985)

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/537/ynrq2h.jpg (https://imageshack.com/i/exynrq2hj)

"The fragrance of a thousand flowers." Romantic, delicate, classy, maybe a bit formal. Reminds me of the most elegant and refined pastry shop imaginable. Delicious.

Notes: Rose, Mandarin, Lily, Tuberose, Marigold, Orange Flower, Muguet, Jasmine, Ylang-Ylang, Sandalwood, Vetiver

Must Mention! Jicky - House of Guerlain (1889)
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/910/c2B67o.jpg (https://imageshack.com/i/pac2B67oj)

I call this "icky." :D I own it because of the history and significance. I find the scent, however, repulsive.

Simply put, if you don't know much about fragrance, Jicky is basically the ancestor of practically every modern perfume we have today. Although it was not the first perfume to use synthetic notes (as opposed to those inspired by nature), it was different in that it was based on an abstract concept. Emotion (this was a perfume inspired by a person, and memories associated with them). All perfumes before either related to a place or a natural ingredient (a bouquet of flowers, a single flower, eau de cologne etc.).

Jicky is said to be named either after the nickname Aimé Guerlain gave to his nephew, Jacques, or after a girl who broke Aimé's heart as a student in England. Jicky is widely heralded as the first "modern" fragrance, and the first to be referred to as a perfume. Jicky was among the first fragrances to incorporate synthetic odorants (vanillin and coumarin) in its composition, and is described by some as being the "ultimate" fougère. The fragrance is known for its main notes of lavender and vanilla over animalic civet. Although marketed by Guerlain as a women's fragrance, it was initially more successful with men and has proven to be a popular unisex fragrance. Over 120 years later, Jicky is still being sold, making it the oldest fragrance (other than colognes) in continuous production.

Right now I changed between nautica voyage and le male by John Paul Gaultier. Le male has always been like my favorite scent but when it came out in the 90s everyone was wearing it at the clubs. Now I can finally wear it without having to worry about everyone else smelling like me.

Last winter I was wearing Fahrenheit by Chrisian Dior and Halston Z-14 not sure I'll go with the Dior scent again this winter it may be too young of a smell for me. Maybe I'll go back to obsession by Calvin Klein.

Escada is known for their sugary very sweet girly scents. I remember having to give away a fragrance for the exact opposite reason, too masculine , it was Davidoff night dive I remember spraying it and when I refreshed it later that night it was suddenly too heavy for me too spicy and it was shocking me and turned my stomach upside down, I had to give it away

It's strange how perfume can affect someone. The first perfume allergy experience I ever had was the Escada experience in November last year. Since then I have found myself allergic to a number of perfumes. So far I have been allergic to three of my colleagues perfumes. I don't even notice the smell, but when I start coughing and my eyes start watering I know that someone is wearing something my body dislikes.

Can not leave the house without any of it on me literally. I also think fragances exude your personality, so I have several of them for different ocasions. Women who pass by and leave a scent in the air is also a big thrill to me, some people feel sick with strong scents but I am actually the oposite.

It was a joke.
Slivovice (Slivovica, Sliwowitz) is a plum brandy, not parfum :)

There's nothing wrong having a pleasant smell. As long as you know colognes and perfumes don't substitute shower.

This one looks lovely I'm going to look for this one. Is it a soft scent?

Hi Marzipan, yes it's a delicate and soft floral scent. It haunts me though so I no longer wear it now. (Last time I wore it was when I went to a mortuary to identify the dead body of a boyfriend who I was engaged to and I stood there for about 30 minutes saying goodbye and went into shock and extreme distress for a year before being hospitalised, and now that scent reminds me of that difficult period that happened late in a November.)

It's a delicate and sweet scent though, but I keep it buried in the past. It's a beautiful scent but it unsettles me and makes me feel sad. I started wearing ghost after his death for about a year and that reminds me of all my intense spiritual searching around cemeteries, etc. Rush reminds me of a more uplifting time when I found new love again with my current lover, (the pair of us were standing in a department store once and happily exploring and smelling different fragrances together (he's always buying fragrances, scented candles and incense) - and my boyfriend went mmm! on smelling Rush and he was urging me to 'buy it, buy it, buy it!' I instantly loved the scent of it too (shame about the bottle though.) Vanilla scents always reminds me of my childhood, and Vanderbilt and Amarige de Givenchy both remind me of my mum (her favourite scents that she often wears.) White Musk and Angel always makes me feel comforted and uplifts me.

Do you also experience nostalgia with certain scents and aromas? Even when it's the end of November I get chills through me with the scent in the air as it reminds me of his death.

I kept thinking I could smell the clinical scent of death and disinfectants that I could smell inside the mortuary after I went home again. I kept thinking I could smell it around me for a few days after going to identify my boyfriend's body for the police, and I was afraid that sickly scent would never leave my mind, but shock and grief plays havoc with the emotions and mind. (I won't even walk near the area where the mortuary is as it haunts me.)

Thank you for sharing.

There are some things that will trigger negative emotions but scents fortunately is not one of them. But I am naturally drawn to soft delicate floral scents as well as clean scents. I am also drawn to the smell of fish but not a scent I would buy. But I do enjoy the scent when in a fish market or when I am cooking. Scent is something that has proven to never leave us. I have known people who enjoy the smell of gasoline and burning rubber because it reminds them of their childhood.
Most aromas for me are food :D Black Opium is a coffee scent. I don't like spiced, citrus or fruit scents but I like this one.
But yes, if I come in contact with certain smells such as the flowers or fish it directs me to an image, place, time.

The last time I was by a dead smell I had a difficult time confusing it to the smell of apple vinegar. Before then had you not seen death? I have experience with this since I was small, been to many funerals and such.

Maybe if you wear the perfume and something very good happens you will make peace with it and learn a new perspective for your loved one's departure.

Have you tried Dolce&Gabbana's Dolce floral drops? I enjoy this, very soothing for me especially when the wind catches it.

I discovered a lovely one by Avon today. Imari Seduction. My sister-in-law gave it to me for Christmas. It's so difficult to buy perfumes for someone else but she nailed it! I got the perfume and scented body lotion.

I tried it out and it DOESN'T make my sinuses block up, which is definitely a plus!

Hi, I've not tried D&G's floral drops. I prefer warm musk and sweet vanilla scents more than floral scents.

I'd never been to a funeral as a child, nor seen death before my partner suddenly and unexpectedly died young. I went into shock and total disbelief and it was extremely emotionally painful with so much crying for a year afterwards.

After his death, my grandmother passed away five months later the following year and I went to her funeral. I was more emotionally prepared for my grandmother passing away and I coped much better as I was able to say goodbye to her when she was dying in a hospice.

I didn't see her corpse though (none of my relatives did) as that's not a sight any of us wanted to see, nor the way we wish to remember her.

I've only ever seen one dead person in life (my boyfriend at the time) who I had to identify in a mortuary. I prefer not to see a dead body again as it's very distressing. I think I'm too emotionally fragile to cope with looking at a dead person, especially if it's someone I love.

Got this today. I am thinking, I don't have any Dior among my perfumes. Gotta check my collection.

A perfume is very personal thing which reflects your personnality through smell. It has to match with your own natural smell + your personnality and taste of course, IMO.

Mine is Alien, eau de parfum by Thierry Mugler. I'm not using it a lot, just a few is enough and lasts long time.

"Fragrance Family:

Floral

Scent Type:

Warm Floral

Key Notes:

Jasmine Sambac, Cashmeran Wood, Amber Gris

About:

Alien is a floral-woody-amber fragrance that borders the realms of spirituality and sensuality. It exudes a positive energy, charged with sensual and intriguing mystery.

Alien is a radiant fragrance, and its deep purple-hued glass bottle is designed to mimic an amethyst, a precious gem that symbolizes femininity and refinement. This sacred talisman can be layered with any Alien Body product.

What else you need to know:

Thierry Mugler envisioned Alien as a sensation—the moment that occurs before a miracle. There is silence, fullness, and an expectancy of the supernatural. It is named Alien because inside every woman is something so unique, so special, it is Alien to everything around her.

"There is a goddess in every woman that I like to magnify."—Thierry Mugler"
