Riot police have fired tear gas and water cannon during clashes with demonstrators as at least 100,000 people marched through Brussels in the first mass protests against government austerity measures.

Protesters overturned cars and threw paving stones and fireworks during the protest against economic reforms that will extend the pension age, contain wages and cut public services.

The government says the austerity measures are essential to keep the budget deficit within European Union constraints.

Tchek, Belgium is one of the most socialist country in Europe, with public spending representing 50% or something of the GDP. You're ahead of countries such as Sweden! Do you really think that this kind of whining is normal even though your citizens are given everything by the state? Stop whining about some needed reforms.

It will be the last nail in the coffin of the UE.
Germany is right now experiencing its longest and hardest railways strike ever...

Belgium is a peaceful and consensual society, with periodical outbursts of extraordinary violence.
And they have one of the highest unionization rates in the world.

Antwerp's dockers are particularly notorious. They go to demos with military gas masks.
The cops are scared when they have to face them.

The debt will never be paid, they just want to please their EU overlords... these reforms won't do anything good for Belgium, they are just accompagnying the bankrupcy of the country without any vision of society. Protesters are stupid and that government is stupid as well.

Even the Germans are becoming stupid... There is no other possibility left I guess, we'll have to live the 40's (and all the other wars) again.
It's sad that Switzerland is located at this place on this continent though. Maybe we could buy some isolated island away from the madness :D

Well you are outside the Eurozone at least... you'll probably get flooded by Italian, French and German immigrants soon...
