Brodicus is getting very excited already, he can hardly wait, his new England shirt arrived in the post.
How prepared will you be for the greatest sporting event in the Universe?

Just mention the word "Brazil" or "Argentina" and I forget about the age-old football rivalry between us and Germany. Brazil and the Argies are free gain.. every European country that confronts and defeats those cheaters (and I don't care how dirty that European team plays) deserves the title !

I was saving up to go to this year's World Cup since 2006 but in 2008 I got caught driving 160 km/h in a 110 zone and the ensuing charges/fine/court appearances crushed that dream.

It was in the news yesterday that only half the tickets designated for Dutch fans has been sold. That means that just around 5000 fans will go to South Africa.
That's a very far cry of the Dutch invasions of Germany and Switzerland. The reasons that were being mentioned are distance, the season (it's winter in South Africa), security and stuff like HIV-AIDS.

The Royal Netherlands Football Association KNVB states (politically correct) that:

"Zuid-Afrika kost nu eenmaal meer tijd, meer geld en vergt meer voorbereiding. We schatten in dat rond de groepswedstrijden zo'n vijfduizend Nederlandse supporters per duel aanwezig zullen zijn, een prima aantal gezien de grote reisafstand", aldus de zegsvrouw van de KNVB.

"South Africa will cost more time, more money and takes a longer time to prepare oneself for. We estimate that around the matches some 5000 Dutch supporters will attend which is a good number because of the long travel distance"

I remember that a lot of fans went to the U.S though- back in 1994 and to South Korea and Japan a couple of years later.

Better for Spaniards, we are used to fight in distant lands, cruel weather and surrounded by natives and sickness.

"La naranja mecánica" (spaniard name for Dutch selection) will be no obstacle for our Roja.

"Shrugs"

As I said that was the politically correct notion. The reason why they don't go is simple. A lot of people take their families to such events and what idiot would want to put himself and his family at risk in that country ?

South Africa is dangerous for whites in general (a personal experience comes from one of my buddies who visited Jo'Burg and Kaapstad a couple of years ago and was nearly robbed) and I am sure that if South Africa would have been a normal safe country. It would have been flooded and even more so because Afrikaners are blood of our blood.
I think that a lot of people are also hesitant to go because of the genocide that is going on over there.

Anyways. I have traveled a lot throughout Europe. And I still considering showing my face in Asia- to see Indonesia but I can't remember the last time that I saw a Spanish marked car.

I can't remember the last time when I had to share a table with a Spanish family or a subway seat with a Spanish tourist. Hmm.. that probably because Spaniards don't travel all that much outside their own country. Every trip I am engulfed (in of course locals) in Dutch, "Belgians", British, Germans, Canadians, Americans, Swiss and sometimes Scandinavians.

I can remember some anecdote from several years when someone told us about a Dutchman who decided to work somewhere in the jungle of Brazil or some place somewhere in those whereabouts and guess what language he hears when he wakes up one morning ? Dutch.

You have to pay more attention, because it´s very easy to find Spaniards everywhere, as least i do everytime i travel! :p There are tons of them around Europe and in America, not so many in Asia though. If you go to Indonesia it´s normal that you´ll find more dutch people than spanish, but try to go to Argentina, Mexico or Cuba and it will be completely the opposite.

Anyway, fuck South Africa, I´m not going to that crazy shithole. I like to enjoy football and drinking beer with my friends withouth being worried if i gonna be assaulted, shooted or wathever. World Cups should be always in Europe or South America btw.

Maybe you didn't noticed them since you were expecting to see some bullfighter or Flamenco.

Half of my old friends are not traveling, but living away. Fran in Indonesia, Sebas in Dubai, Albert in Palenque and Rafael in Norway. But contrary to the rest of europeans, spaniards have been historically characteristic in merging with the natives and fleeing from the tourist ways.

If you look for spaniards in Mexico, for example, don't expect to find them where are the rest of europeans, as in acapulco, in so high proportions than you will find them lost in Palenque or little villages with the natives.

I know what I am talking about.

Ah, common and senseless -to any minimal criteria- mistake.

We were invaded by muslims, yes, but the "moros" were a generic word to identify them, who came from Morocco, Algeria, Nigeria, Egypt, Mauritania, Sudan, Etiopia, Somalia, Syria, Arabia, Iran, Libya, -istans, Iraq, Yemen...

If you know a little more about numbers than about our History, you will easily understand that we, few alone fought against HORDES of Negros, Arabs and "whites" that composed the Islam. And eventually, kicked them hordes, to become world rulers -by sword, valor and balls of course, not merchandising-.

So, I fix your statement:

That is part of our Pride and arrogance with some europeans. We managed to fight against Islam in its most glorious moment ALONE, with 0' European Help.

France have always been an exceptionally "Non-European" European football nation. Starting from the Raoul Diagne (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raoul_Diagne) through to Jean Tigana (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Tigana).

The squad which will leave to play in South Africa will include: Steve Mandanda (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Mandanda), Jean Alain Boumsong (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Alain_Boumsong), Florent Malouda (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florent_Malouda) and Patrice Evra (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrice_Evra) were not born in France, whilst around 80% of the French squad are of non-European stock.

I'm not French, so wouldn't want to dictate what is and isn't French, but I can say that France, judged by the team they field, is not European.

It is a constant annoyance to me when having to listen to these French ex-players commentating on football games on British television when they start banging on about how great their native countries are, and how excited they feel to see in the [insert multinational cup here]

I think Roy Keane summed it up best when he said [I]"If they're so fucking great, why'd you not go and play for them you cunt?"

Never mind where they came from.
The Spanish people are still an amalgamation and a conglomerate of the aboriginal Spanish tribes, the Greek colonists, the Carthaginians and Roman conquerors, and of the innumerable Gothic rations, Vandals, Huns, Alans, Suevi, and Visigoths the MOORS, who had in successive waves surged over the land for hundreds of years.
LOL, the greeks, carthaginians were so minoritary, plus they only settled in the coastline , and they were just traders. As for the romans, they were not a large group. The Huns never step a foot here. The germanic tribes were larger but still minoritary. The moors were also a minority (about 5 to 8 % of the population) and later expelled. The largest ethnic group was and still is , the Celtiberians

For me it would be Denmark and Germany, because I feel related to them the most.

I always support Germany in the World and Euro Cup. I admire their iron-clad discipline and (usually) flawless teamwork. They are also the most consistent and arguably the most succesful national team in the history of the sport.

And unlike all too many other European teams (the worst example being France's pan-African zoo already mentioned by Dave) team Germany is actually composed of German athletes.

German attackers are there and on board, do your homework before you spit nonsense against Germany. :rolleyes2:

Our best attackers for the World Cup are Thomas Müller, player of FC Bayern München. He shot a lot of goals in the German Bundesliga, 13 goals this season, and some in the Champions League. Bayern München is this year's finalist in the Champions League (where are the Spanish teams, by the way?) and Thomas Müller is the main supporter of Arjan Robben in most games.

http://static.rp-online.de/layout/fotos/Germany_Soccer_Bundesliga_FAS1294aaf7937177a.jpg

and Stefan Kießling, player of Bayer Leverkusen. He shot 21 goals in this year's Bundesliga saison. That's rank 2. :wink

http://sportige.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/Stefan-Kiessling.jpg

Podolski, Klose and Gomez are nominated as well but Kuranyi was kicked out of the team for the World Cup in South Africa.

West Germany used to be a powerhouse but now they don't exist. Will a new united Germany ever win the World cup?
Pardon my french, but I can't understand the crap you and Maniot are talking about. Your anti-German attitudes seem to obfuscate your sanities. West Germany was entirely German, hence Germans won the World Cup three times. Dot. The fact that Germany was split at that time makes our victories even more impressive: Imagine only Catalonia could play for Spain, or only the region around Athens without Thesanoliki for Greece. Next topic: You say Germany "don't exist" right now? Let's see, who was the World Cup finalist in 2002? Who ranked 3rd in the World Cup 2006? Who was the European championship finalist in 2008? And, more importantly, where was your Serbia all the time? Don't be ridiculous!

Germany never won a cup before WWII and after its unification.
How many serious World Cups took place before WW2? And how many World Cups were won by the mighty Greeces? I'm curious...was your country ever in a World Cup final? Semi final? Quarter final? And sure, Greece won the European championship in 2004...with the German trainer Otto Rehagel. All these things considered lead to the inevitable question: Have you eaten a clown this morning?

There's no German flag smiley?:p

Ireland was stolen its qualification by a multiethnic team of French spoken people.

I'm passing a hard time trying to choose a screen worth the event. I must confess that for my, nowadays, football used to mean shit -maybe cause Ive a deep knowledge (played 50 matches/year for more than ten years sure it helps)- , so its easy to realize that they're cheating us with the play they game (dont know for how years more if tactics continue to advance (for sure) in current direction) but World Cup is another thing, I remember my childhood days promising myself to watch all the fucking games broadcasted (in my dear old Telefunken). :cry

If Germany managed to win 3 times as separated then it's easy to think they will do again sooner or later as United Germany.
I would have got your issue if it were viceversa , a united nation that wins a lot of Cups and then , when split in two , doesn't win anymore , because a split nation is weaker than an united one , but that's the opposite case of today's Germany , that example would fit what happened to USSSR , that has became Russia+Ukraine+Latvia+etc , or the case of Yugoslavia.

So you're claiming that Germany has won 3 World Cups because she had two teams??
East Germany has always been a puppet in soccer.

You argument could be valid for Russia , USSR has won an European Championship back in 1960 , now that Cup stays in Moscow and is claimed by Russian Federation I suppose , in this case also Ukraine-Baltic countries-Armenia etc could have a point in claimin part of that Cup but the West/East Germany is a different issue.

Miroslav Klose

Mirosław Klose is a Silesian of mixed Polish-German ancestry:

His family speaks Polish at home and his wife is Polish too.

Klose was born in Opole, Upper Silesia, Poland. Both of his parents were active in sports; his mother, Barbara Jeż, was a member of the Poland women's national handball team. His father Josef Klose played professional football in Poland for Odra Opole, before leaving communist Poland in 1978 and moving to France to play for clubs like AJ Auxerre. In 1985, Miroslav and his mother joined him in Kusel, Germany. Klose's father is from an ethnic German family and thus they were permitted to settle as Aussiedler in West Germany.

In 2006 interviews for German Süddeutsche Zeitung[1] and Polish tabloid Fakt, Josef Klose stated that he absolutely does not want to be regarded as Polish, declaring himself rather as an Silesian and a European, and stating that the success of his son is due to himself and German clubs. Klose himself said in a recent interview to Przegląd Sportowy that it would be best for him not to be called German or Polish, but European.[2] As he stated in an interview to Der Spiegel in 2007, his family at home speaks Polish to each other, with his twin sons learning German in Kindergarten.[3] He has a Polish-born wife Sylwia Klose[4] and is the father of twins Luan and Noah.[5]

Klose is actually more of a "Polack" than Podolski, in spite of his surname ;)

Mario Gomez is also far from being a pure ethnic German I guess...

Sadly history is not as you want it to be, frustrated asega.

We all know that dutch women, in those years and nowadays, have weaknesses with the Caballeros (who had ultimate punishment if abused or killed civilians) and the dutch men of the time for the Englishmen ;) calling men to defend from men their own beds and paying some prices without too much resistance, as they didn't knew to defend their own muds.

Women usually like men, you know.

But don't worry, our Imperial blood fixed those problems of those inhabitants of the mud and nowadays you can be proud of being half spaniards.

Congratulations, stop crying anymore and don't be sad. Now you can look la Rendición de Breda with different eyes and find your traits among the vencedores of the right side.
...

Note: you can call me Papi if you want. :)

Ooh really ? Antwerp, Maastricht, Naarden, Oudewater, Mechelen-- and the list is bloody endless of Spanish crimes.
Your nation has little to be proud off but when it comes to military history. Even if you fought against the Portuguese you guys made a joke out of yourself: Aljubarrota in 1385 or the Portuguese Restauration War. Come on.. Spain was the butt of all jokes.
And what to think about Turnhout in 1597, the brilliant capture of Breda in 1590 by the Dutch, battles like Nieuwpoort in 1600.

So who knows.. you can call me papa as the Spanish ladies loved the Dutch sailors and soldiers which were so much more masculine then their own husbands that dressed themselves up in silk but couldn't hold a sword, a pike or a musket. Let alone (apart from Velasquez) a paint brush.

Well what can I say:wink
Spanish Inquisition couldn’t quash Moorish, Jewish genes never mind the other tribes from the north and South.
Twenty percent of the population of the Iberian Peninsula has Sephardic Jewish ancestry and 11 percent have DNA reflecting Moorish ancestors,

This study that you talk about was already dismissed by the authors themselves. Not strange, considering it was pure lies.
The jews never reachead more than 2% of the population, so it is imposible to have 20% jewish. Look at the jewish Y-DNA J1 in Spain is 0.5% which is like the rest of Europe. And the moorish contribution is not 11% but 2.5% :

"A European wide study including Spaniards states: No significant correlation is apparent between North African admixture and geography. Genetic exchanges across the Mediterranean Sea, and especially in its western-most part where the geographic distance between continents is smallest (Spain), seem to have been limited or very limited, establishing the North African contribution at between 2.5% and 3.4%. "

Dupanloup, I. (2004). "Estimating the Impact of Prehistoric Admixture on the Genome of Europeans". Molecular Biology and Evolution 21 (7): 1361.

which again is average for Europe...And As for the Nordic tribes contribution, not really, it has been minimal, the largest ancestry are the Celtiberians...

Funny! :thumb001: Spaniard women never found those "maricones" -as usually they were called, for your info ;)- but in secondary narrations among the plagues of parasites of Spain in Foreign lands.

Although you know Dutch women met closely the Spaniards, since these Tercios put feet and Pikes in your home land, including the beds, por supuesto.

In the opposite, you know, the rabbit could never enter the Wolf's nest, España.

And if the spaniards entered as they wished in those muddy, cold and unpleasant lands of merchants and farmers, was not because of their silk dressing, as you say, or because we were an horde, as Islam from Arabia to morocco.
In fact we were very few.
Maybe we ruled your homeland (as well as half wolrd) because of the Sword and Balls? I don't know, that seems to tell History in massive number of episodes... but maybe asega is right and all our Human History is wrong.

Keep the faith, maybe your lies and fantasies about Spaniards and Dutch will change History and make magically bigger Holland and disappear belgium, among other FEW things. Keep trying :rolleyes2: Hijito.

Papi Cristiano Viejo understands you more than you think ;) Spain for such a "figurant" and "extra" country is of great importance for you, I know, but for us you are no more than a harmless fly in our wars and conflicts and that is as you are treated in our History.
You would understand it when you take a look at our History of VAST deeds of blood and steel.

Here the only receptor of other's semen were your dutch women before your maricones papis couldn't do nothing about that but look other side :wink

I'm sure you have Tercios blood in your veins (sincere congratulations) at the time those dutch men you call ancestors couldn't fertilize their women, already full of Iberian Seeds, You know, nature's laws of Alpha and Omega males.

A "shame" (for the dutch males) carried in secret in the families that have nowadays it's representation in senseless, boring and harmless insults by some of you to Spaniards, but quite incoherent if we affront that you are half spaniards ;)

It's better that Spaniards and the Dutch are at each others' throats here than in real life.

Likewise it's better that Spain and The Netherlands duke it out on the football pitch rather than the battlefield (wasn't resolving conflicts without any (serious) bloodshed the original idea of sports in the first place?).

Still, I think this thread needs a cleanup. I know that football is not a matter of life and death, it's more important than that, etc. but this thread is depressing. People need to chill.

Agree. His great intelligence and cold blood allows him to do miracles in the game. Let's hope he recovers nicely from his pains.

About the backstabbing and infamous attacks of an english "lord", in this case the president of their federation, is something we are used to in History, this is the best moment to do so, when we are european champions and favorites.

Some baseness seems never change and here the only affected is the shame of the English people for having a "Lord" like that.
His federation already has offered excuses and pardon for such a villainous unproven accusation.

South Africa might not make the Last 16 (they will be the first hosts who don’t) but given that France are pretty bad at the moment…..

On the other hand.. I have the feeling that Spain and England... emm... will put their foot in it as always.

England are always talked up by the press, they have probably (on paper) the best team in Europe after Spain but they don’t have what it takes to beat the big boys. The luck of the draw means they could reach the semi finals they should win their group with three straight wins, they will probably face Australia (but they could beat Germany, Serbia or Ghana reasonably comfortably). Mexico would be a tough nut to crack but unless Argentina make a bad start they will face either them or Korea, again a game England should win. So we arrive at the semis and Brazil, Brazil are just to damn good I’m afraid for England.

What about something like Germany, Italy or Brazil going far?

Germany are methodical but I think the bubble has burst for them in recent years and since England annihilated them in Munich they aren’t a bogey team that England are likely to fear (Portugal have that job for us now). Italy, to old, these dudes are waiting to collect their pensions, they will be too buggered to go much beyond the Last 16. Brazil you can never write them off but I think it will be Argentina’s cup.

Spain could be a contender....if they bother to show up that is.....

But still I'm optimistic. This situation is a special challenge for the team, and sometimes they need such a challenge to get off their arses... ;)

It is starting

Two cleaning ladies at the Southern Sun hotel in Hyde Park have appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court for allegedly stealing money from the Colombian soccer team, police said on Friday.

The Colombian team, who are staying at the five-star hotel, noticed that they had been robbed when they went back to their rooms after training on Tuesday, Colonel Eugene Opperman said.

"There was theft out of their rooms. They went out for about an hour to practise and the rooms were cleaned while they were out," he said.

"When they came back they discovered there was some money missing."

The Times newspaper reported on Friday that the women allegedly stole $21 000 (160 000), however Opperman would not comment on the amount that was taken for security reasons.

Three women were arrested on Thursday but the charges against one of the women were dropped due to lack of evidence.

The Times reported that the remaining two suspects, Jeanet Mashimbyi, 29 and Lucky Mahlatsi, 25, appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

They were due to appear in court again next week. - Sapa

Columbian National Soccer Team Robbed at Five-Star World Cup Hotel (http://marvcbarr.blogspot.com/2010/05/columbian-national-soccer-team-robbed.html)

Even before the kick-off to the 2010 Soccer World Cup crime has raised its ugly head; and the headlines blare the news that the Columbian National Soccer Team has been robbed at their five-star hotel.

The irony of it is that visitors to South Africa are routinely advised not to venture out on the streets, but rather to keep to the safety of their hotels.

Trouble is, it’s not safe anywhere in South Africa. Not on the streets and not in the hotels. Not even five-star hotels. Crime in South Africa is everywhere. That’s the long and short of it.

And the Columbians can bear testimony to this fact from personal experience.

This incident flies in the face of repeated brash assurances by the top police brass that they will ensure that the tournament will be the "safest World Cup ever". It will give credence to the notion that this country’s criminals are always one step ahead of the law.

It must be said that the perpetrators were hotel staff members, and, as ‘Gauteng police spokesman Colonel Eugene Opperman said: "It was an inside job. How do you police that? You cannot. They worked there everyday"’.

Fair enough.

But this incident highlights the insanely high level of criminality in this country where virtually no one is above suspicion. It’s all very well to chuck tens of thousands of cops at the World Cup venues and claim the tournament will be the safest ever. But the visitors won’t be living at the stadiums; and there aren’t the resources to post a cop outside the hotel room of every soccer tourist.

The behaviour of the hotel leaves much to be desired. You’d have thought the management would have taken special precautions for a national team. Far from doing that, they allowed questionable staff members to have access to the team’s rooms.

It came out in court that one of the accused has a case of theft pending against her for allegedly stealing money from other guests at the hotel, while the second accused has a warrant of arrest outstanding against her.

To make matter worse, ‘the management of the Hyde Park hotel allegedly asked the cops to keep the incident quiet, fearing bad publicity and cancellations before the World Cup’.

Apparently the hotel wanted the women to be fired quietly but the cops, to their credit, insisted on arresting them following complaints from the Colombian team.

This is even worse publicity for the hotel than that which they feared.

Lets hope there are no more incidents of this nature (http://www.timeslive.co.za/local/article474414.ece/Bafana-rivals-robbed-at-World-Cup-hotel) to mar an event which every South African is looking forward to.

PS: 1..Hyde Park hotel is the most expensive hotel in Sandton

This is not good at all. I remember Japan as one of the weakest teams I ever watch in a World Cup. It was like if their genetical conditions for Sports are weaker than Chineses or Koreans: maybe being a shorter race has something to do.

BTW Im eagerly waiting for the Sony 32'' Edge-LED I got for changing my bank. It's not the 42''or 50'' 100Hz Full-Dim-LED of my dreams but it was quite a bargain...and it's a Sony, so quality and nice design are taken for granted. Currently I watch TV on my PC and, even I have a good monitor, is too small hence not worth the incoming FIFA event.

Well, the Japanese are very fast and agile, for one thing.

I think the problem is their mentality more than anything. East Asians don't seem to do very well in team sports in general -- pretty amazing considering the way they typically organise their societies.

Multiple choice poll, so you can pick more than one favoured countries.

Going by statistics it has to be a South American country, Brazil and Argentina being the more obvious candidates.

European countries don't win outside of Europe whilst Non-European / South American countries are generally not good enough to win world cups.

That's how South-Koreans would act, too. It's how Koreans are in public. Dignified and not prone to outbursts at the wrong time. Uncontrolled emotion at the wrong time is a very big social taboo there. (So, it's not become of Kim Jung-il. It's more of a chicken-and-egg question, basically).

It's how Orientals are generally. (The peoples who are part-Oriental and part-Australoid, in the south of East-Asia, are more rambunctious.)

what's O.K. Corall? In the wild times of the Western USA in the 1800s, there was a famous shoot-out at a place called "OK Corral (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/corral)". It was between some of the most famous outlaws and law-men of the time. Many people died.

Radojica: Serbs using gun-violence against Germans is never a good idea. At least not in the month of June. We tried that once before, you'll remember, 96 years ago. It didn't work out so well. :(

In their 1950 World Cup match, England was upset by the U.S., 1-0 (U.S. team is in the photograph above). England was given 3-1 odds to win the Cup, while the U.S was given 500-1. Walter Bahr, 83, is one of the surviving U.S. team members, and the Guardian on-line has interviewed him in its story about the game. According to Bahr,
"The perfect game is to win and play well," he says. "We won but we certainly did not outplay England. It was one of those games where the best team does not win. I am proud of it. We had a decent team. But if we played England 10 times, they would have won nine of them."

Given how shite England have played in their last three games I wouldn't be at all surprised if they lose or draw to America. In fact I sort of hope they do, might wake them up a bit.

Brazil or Argentina, no other real contenders. Real outside shot, perhaps Spain but I doubt it.
