I've approached this: https://www.tribecode.com/

For nearly 75$ (!!) they test autosomal genetics, mtDNA and y-dna. It's a new company and a fresh product, they use low-cost-generating method and they want to gather first customers, so that would explain such low price. I don't smell a scam.

I've seen their haplotree and it looks really decent. R1a, for instance

I recommend it to everyone, especially to people who don't feel entirely satisfied with haplogroups provided by 23andMe but FTDNA is too expensive for them. Also, autosomal test has higher coverage than any popular product and they have more reference populations.

I plan to order it myself.

How many SNPs are tested in total? What's the name of the chip?

Illumina HiSeq X Ten. I dont't know the concrete data, coverage is just much higher. You can contact them, they replied on all of my previous questions I asked them.

Not yet, as far as i understand they gonna start to ship in other countries in early 2015.

But do they ship outside the USA?
I got such reply

"Sorry, we currently have a country limit because of limit supply of the kits. We expect to accept international orders in few months when we can handle more kits. In the meantime, we can make an exception for special cases. If you would like to purchase a kit and you do not have US shipping address, please register at www.tribecode.com, submit a help request. You can also send an email to help@tribecode.com."

But usually it's like Not a Cop says

What about the tree for I2? Would it be worth for me to take it for I2c over the big Y test? I mean its 75$ but will it be like 23andMe and just say I'm "I2"

I'm actually really excited about this. I registered for an account when I bought the test and they have some sample profiles. I'll upload them if anyone is interested in seeing what the results look like.

EDIT: Here are some screenshots from several of the sample people's results.

Sounds good, i may get one when they start shipping to Europe, i'm not sure they would be too happy if they start getting lots and lots of special requests for shipping here.

If it's really good i could get it for other family members, but that might take a while even given the low price.

It has I2c, I've checked the tree. Of course BigY would be better for y-chromosome itself but let's compare the costs. As I tested my y-dna quite deeply, I will do this test mostly because of the autosomal genetics and mtdna.

I was thinking about it but they said that members don't receive raw data, but they are planning to release it. So I don't know how it can be used with certain programs since all the others only genotype for SNPs.

I really hope my kit arrives soon. Their site says shipping will take 5-8 days, but it's already been 11. Normally it wouldn't be a big deal, but I'm leaving Miami for Winter Break in a few days and was hoping to send it back before then.

Apparently my kit just arrived in Miami. I was expecting it two weeks ago and was hoping to get the results back before the end of January, but I heard that their cyber-monday sale really slowed things down. That's understandable, but also somewhat frustrating because I wont be back in Miami for another few weeks, meaning that I'll have to wait even longer for my results.

I finally managed to pick up my kit today. The process overall seems to be pretty similar to 23andMe and Ancestry. I'm going to try to send my sample back to the lab tomorrow. Hopefully it doesn't take that long for them to process it.

Do they test downstream for yDNA? I mean, am I going to learn more about my R1a1a* (z93 vs z280)

They test for SNPs as it's shown on the haplotree. You should better do FTDNA, because you already did 23andMe, don't you? You need just a better insight into your y-dna haplogroup.

The problem is, I made my test with the newest v4 chip. And ftDNA doesn't accept any data based on v4 chip.

FTDNA will send a fresh kit to you if you want to test your Y/MTDNA haplogroup. The transfer from 23andme to FTDNA is only autosomal data.

As Hevo said, they only transfer autosomal data. It's because of different techniques used by FTDNA and 23andMe concerning y-dna testing.
FTDNA tests y-STRs(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y-STR) and you can also choose to order from tens of thousand of SNPs, whereas 23andMe tests just for a few SNPs and doesn't allow a comparison of y-dna.

I took a look and the smallest package was something like 170 Dollars + shipping costs. thats allot for a student. I will have to wait.

I'm a student as well, so I know the financial pain.
That's why I stretched it in time. August of 2011 - 37-marker test. July of 2012 - 67-marker test upgrade. May of 2014 - an SNP and December of 2014 - next SNP.
Although delay about the SNPs was caused by reason other than money - just lack of specific SNPs untill next-generation-sequencing products were introduced and some members were tested :)

I was thinking of getting one but when I was about to buy it it said 'SOLD OUT'. I'd better wait till a sale, last time was $75
