Venia Palliri-Dousmani. She only played in a couple of movies in the 1960s, whence the photos below:

Dushmani is an Albanian feudal family, Palliri sounds to me Albanian as well. Maybe because of those two, I think she looks Albanian versus Greek but not sure.

Dousmani is probably Arvanite but Palliri is first-heard to me,doesn't even exist in phones catalogues.

Gives me some Latin-American vibe tbh.

Dushamni is not arvanite. It was originally a Serbian-Montenegrin family who got albanized and then made there way to some Greek islands during Venetian times and after Scanderbeg. For example their original names were "Goranin" (highlander) and "Nenad" (unexpected one) during their treaty with the Venetians.

I have no idea on Palliri but I recognize in it Pa-lliri which would be Albanian.

I got that too xD But Pa-lliri is typical Albanian conjunction. One of my family names Njanjini, I get Nigerian hits so it's always wise to be careful xD

Btw start here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dushmani_family

Notable family members are Goranin, Nenad, Bozidar and then of course some neutral and Albanians ones like Leka (Albanian diminuized of Alexsandar)

Does "Dushmani" has some meaning in Serbian or Albanian or it follows the Turkish Dusman?

Turkish name. They were Ottoman vassals where they got the name, from there they became vassals of the Venetians where they found Catholcism, this is where they became Albanized.

I'm not getting it in Arvanite/Stradioti places so I guess it could also be a nickname/shared.

No reason for an Orthodox Arvanite to have the name "Dushman", in Turkish it means the enemy. And they probably took it either for dramatic reasons (they are enemies of Turks) or who knows.

Why would orthodox Arvanite use Turkish word for their family?

Anyways as funny as this was, I was listening to the song : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IG91liy1T_8&spfreload=10

when I responded to it. I didn't realize until now but go to second 58, he uses word "dushman" namely:

" Again the "dushman" (enemy) is throwing us in pits " Opet dusman u jame nas baca

Many Orthodox Bulgarians have a Turkish word for a family name, including myself.

I don't see why you would do something like that. Anyways "Dushman" which means enemy might have been taken for warrior reasons (Im your enemy, I will call myself your enemy even in family name). They were one of the proudest family of the blood revenge, and almost all members of the family at one time had to deliver a blood debt. And they used to tattoo crosses on them so not to be mistaken for a Muslim.

It's my family name, what could I do? Nothing wrong with it either, as one can see I dislike Turkey and Turks.

Palliri surname sounds quite Albanian. She looks like a South European Cromagnid type. Interesting look.

You can change it. In Serbia in 1804 when we got our independence (or a portion of us anyway) all Turkish names were stricken to dust as well as turkish architecture and turkish blood was used to sweeten our gardens.

Ofc, some families still bear names like Turkovic because they were once in service of Turks and are forced to bear this name so everyone knows what their ancestors were. There is no running away from the shame of the ancestors. Once a traitor, I will treat your great-something-grandson as a traitor.

This just proves how different Serbs and Bulgarians are

We don't see name as a shame. Changing your name is more shameful, unless it is a given name and sounds idiotic, like these "Jean-Marie" recently, or a short form like "Goshko" (from Georgi).

Weren't the Dushmanis sent to Korfu by the Venetians? I think they're descendents of the same family.

It's more what the name represents then anything else. A turkish name implies you were speaking turkish and culturally turkish at one point
