The Metropolitan Police in particular are pretty scandal-prone.

The practice of 'kettling' - police officers crowding demonstrators into a small area away from everyone else - is a growing problem. There was the notorious case where innocent bystander Ian Tomlinson was beaten up and killed by police officers.

I don't know how brutal the cops were in the past but these days they usually only use excessive force against Indigenous Australians.

Furthermore, Black people in particular have a high rate of deaths in police custody which are seldom investigated properly. Excessive brutality against immigrants and asylum-seekers in detention centres is also problematic.

There was a trial, but the police officers were cleared.

Typical. A recent case here in the U.S. involved the killing of a 12 year old kid who was playing with his toy gun at the park. The cops drove up next to him, got out of their car and shot him. Here is the video if any would care to see it:

Wtf? It looks like they didn't even question him. It was practically an assassination.

Thats pretty much what happened, and they got cleared of all wrongdoing too.

What was their justification? Haven't they ever seen little boys play with toy guns before? I did that hundreds of times when I was little. I'm really glad the cops here in Aus aren't that eager to use their guns.

Shooting of black man Oscar Grant by white police officers. Like I said, black people are nothing more than walking bullseyes to police and gun nuts. I recommend watching this film, it is very moving

No justification, they just assumed it was a real gun, probably because the kid was black. I guess he should have known better than to play with toy guns at the park whilst being black.

The thing that Police officers in the U.S. hate more than anything is anyone making them feel "disrespected" even though that is not a law, they will often break the law to reinforce their respectability.

In their defence they were throwing bricks at them though.

I don't care much about police brutality if they have to keep some crackhead bums in line.

GREECE: POLICE VIOLENCE IN GREECE: NOT JUST ‘ISOLATED INCIDENTS’

Greece: Police violence in Greece: Not just ‘isolated incidents’

Human rights violations by Greek law enforcement officials include the use of excessive force against largely peaceful protesters and the ill-treatment of individuals during detention. The authorities consider such violence to be “isolated incidents”. However, the Greek authorities must acknowledge the extent of these violations and take measures to address the systemic problems which contribute to such abuses. Until these problems are tackled impunity will continue to prevail and the vicious circle of such abuses will not be broken.

During the protests against the government in 2013, there were many students severely beaten by the police.

The latest case of police brutality was made up though. A 20-year-old girl claimed to have been stripped naked by a policewoman but later it turned out that she had lied.
