“Almost 25000 people in Czech Republic don’t agree with granting the Islamic community special rights!

On the 8th of October 2014 over 24500 Czechs had signed a petition to prevent Islam from gaining special rights such as allowing it to appear as a subject in state schools or Imams to teach in the army and jails.

Based on Czech law a religious group has the possibility to get these special rights after 10 years after registration and if it fulfills minimal requirements: one thousandth of citizens needs to be registered believers of the religion – in Czech Republic this would be around 10 400 people, and the religious group must give annual financial reports. This autumn Czech Muslims have reached those ten years, however they do not meet the minimal requirements. During counting of people three years ago only 3 358 have officially registered themselves as Muslims and the religious group hasn’t provided financial reports.

Anyway, the important thing is that Czech activists and citizens have shown what they think about granting special rights to the Muslim society and are continuously working on protecting their country.”
