Looks pretty interesting. I think sloping foreheads should also be added to this list.

This one is interesting :P

13. Large eyes

The large eye sockets in Neanderthal skulls indicate that they had large eyeballs to fill them. Antroplogists have suggested that they required larger eyes to enable them to see in the weaker sunlight of the northern latitudes.

Some further suggest that they devoted more brain power to processing visual input than to higher-level processing, and this is partly why modern humans had the evolutionary edge on them.

Ukrainian model Masha Tyelna’s large natural eyes may be a hint of this ancestry, or at least more accurately reflect the proportionate size of Neanderthal eyes.

I suffer from a bit of depression, even though there is no reason for it. I have some other ones, too.

Very interesting!

I remember reading that light eyes were also thought to have come from Neanderthals?

Then why people living in extremely cold (Siberian/Mongol peoples) and extremely dark (Northwest Europeans) places have the smallest eyes?

I have blue eyes and depression and maybe a few other traits.

I agree. This makes no sense. Humans living in warmer climates usually have the biggest eyes not vice versa.

Maybe that's why they went extinct.. they kept clubbing themselves over the head.

Quite right. My blue eyes are in fairly small eye sockets.

I don't get the big eyed thing in cold climates, when the opposite is what you see today.

We can look at Neanderthal skulls and see that they have larger eye sockets than most modern humans. Unlike the Cro-Magnon skull, the orbits are much taller and rounded, and they are also spaced far apart. It's hard to say if this was a cold adaptation or if there was any good reason for it. Since they lived in the cold, it possible that they had epicanthal folds like modern Mongoloids do, or just large hooded eyelids in general. This would make their eyes appear smaller in the flesh than the eye socket size would suggest. We don't have a good way of determining this for the time being.

But wouldn't they still appear to have bigger eye fissures?

Yeah, in that case I'd say a wide but slit-like eye shape is likely. If they actually had epicanthic folds, the width of the fissure would appear reduced as well because of the fold of skin covering the part closest to the inner canthus. All we can do is speculate, though. The only thing we have to go by is the shape of the eye sockets on the skull.

The only physical Neanderthal feature in me is occipital bun I guess.

I think that's the case mostly with western europeans and scandinavians. Some Polish people I have seen have quite big eyes.

Majority of Poles have small eyes, big ones are rare.

I want to guess that Insulating skin refers to the outer skin being less pliable and able to retain more heat. The explanation says that while Africans have more skin layers than Eurasians, it is more compact, meaning that it's probably less pliable.

Think of how you cover heat with something more solid. Is a pot of hot water liable to cool down when covered with a plate or with a strainer?

A person with insulating skin will tend to retain more internal body heat and be more resistant to external temp changes.

I know I have insulating skin simply because my body temp is more higher than others and I tend to be exceptionally warm when others are freezing. This was a pain and a great source of discomfort during winter in classrooms because heat would be blaring, everyone is still cold, and I'm sweating like it's the fourth of July.

La Brana had them.

Is he a confirmed neanderthal and we never heard?

La Brana is not a Neanderthal although he probably had a small amount of Neanderthal DNA in him.

Then why people living in extremely cold (Siberian/Mongol peoples) and extremely dark (Northwest Europeans) places have the smallest eyes?

I don't know for sure, but it's possible that western europe during the ice age was still warmed up by the gulf stream and therefore making the winters much milder, like it is today in europe.

Snow reflects sunlight quite a bit and since Siberians lived in a mostly cloudless and snowy environment I could see why they would develop small eye sockets with dark skin.

I doubt that many people here actually have much of a space behind their last wisdom tooth. That was a trait pretty much limited to true Neanderthals.
