According to the police, an attempt was made on Sunday night to explode a 6.5 metre high statue given to the Finnish capital of Helsinki by the city of Moscow in 1990.
The police are requesting the general public to report sightings of people carrying a large gas container in the suburb of Hakaniemi at around midnight Sunday.
