Inside a Chinese 'ghost city' (http://edition.cnn.com/2015/01/19/world/gallery/china-tianjin-ghost-city/index.html)

It's a weekday morning at Yujiapu financial district in the Chinese city of Tianjin. The government spent billions of dollars on this virtual replica of Manhattan. Take a look and see what's missing: The people.

I think this is a bit of American propaganda because Tianjin is a city of 14 million. These pics probably show areas still under construction.

Doesn't matter. Those 14 million, majority are living in mud houses. The people are too poor to pay for these apartments, and people who do have money invest their money elsewhere since there is alot of real-estate to invest to in China. So the apartments remain empty. The government would legit rather leave them empty than give the apartments to people for free, or even offer the apartments at a much lower cost.

But I didn't mean the whole of tianjin, i meant the people living near by the ghost cities. 14 ,illion figure was a mistake.

Is there any information as to why there are so few people there? I clicked the article but it doesn't say much.

There was no more commentary to the article, only pictures.

Okay. I wasn't sure but maybe I'll look it up. I was wondering why there is almost nobody there.

Probably because it's construction sites?

No lol it was a mistake from me to include it. I thought the 14 million figure was nearby the ghost city since in china with a population of 1.3 billion it would be nothing. But apparently that is all of tianjin. I meant just the people near the ghost city are living in mud houses and such.

You can see it from the documentary i linked from 8:25 minute mark and forward.

The Chinese gov't is greedy, its not what you think it is. This whole idea behind communism you have to understand that in effect it never works. The idea is great sure, equality for all, but it never manages to be that way. China's gap between the rich and the poor is comparable to the United States.

Maybe. I did a little searching and found another article on this with some extra info-
http://khon2.com/2015/01/19/chinese-city-built-to-look-like-manhattan-stands-empty/

That article says there is little construction being done and even some buildings that are finished sit empty.

I think they will eventually be occupied. A similar thing happened to the Canary Wharf tower complex in London. Initially it seemed excessive and a huge spending mistake, all those skyscrapers. They were slow to be filled. But now it is a booming area and they are building more.

The ghost cities are apparently being built to help boost the Chinese GDP as part of their economic planning. I think it would be great to see those apartments occupied but as of right now there are an estimated 64 million brand new empty units and not a lot of people who can afford them.

It's sensationalistic. It'll get filled up. It was the same situation with Pudong in Shanghai, now it's really bustling. Also, Tianjin is a generally prosperous and clean city. I've been there.
