Yeah but most( not all) English people with red hair, have higher Irish/Scots/Welsh ancestry.. Proper Blonde hair is more common than red hair, for those with majority English ancestry

Over 20 million people in Britain carry the red hair gene. (Full article is in the link above).
Red hair is the rarest hair colour and makes up less than 3% of the worlds population.

She reminds me of Queen Elizabeth I of England. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Elizabeth+Tudor+Portrait&newwindow=1&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=3SbEVJL-OIOL7AbN9IC4Cg&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=1366&bih=608

Prince Harry and the Duchess of York are also redheaded royals.

My great-great maternal grandmother was Irish, but I didn't get my red hair from her, I got if from my maternal grandfathers side who was strawberry blond, and his son (my maternal uncle) is a 6'4'' ginger. There's no Irish, Scottish or Welsh on my grandfathers side from whom I inherited my own hair colour.

He's talking about averages rather than individual cases, though.

Any research to back this statement up?

I think it could be due to many indigenous Brits carrying ancient genes.

Southern Scots (or Scots in general), Welsh and Irish generally carry more of the markers for red hair than southern & eastern English, and of course higher levels of red hair are observed in these areas. Although the level of red hair in England is still significantly higher than most places on the continent. Basically what i'm saying is that there will be many cases of people with entirely English ancestry in who's family red hair is very common, and vice versa for the case of Irish and Scots, but the overall averages are overall averages. Although due to differences in population size, there is likely actually more red-headed individuals than there is in Scotland or Ireland or Wales because the population as a whole is much larger - but of course if the Scottish, Irish or Welsh populations were equally as large, there would be more red-heads in total among them than in England.

The British tend to have a strawberry blonde, like Nicole Kidman (Aussie actress of English/Irish descent)

Where I grew up in the West Country of England, I saw some boys and girls with bright ginger hair shades and freckles too. Some had auburn (deep red) hair shades at school.
