there's not an average "spaniard looking", in spain you can find from ligt brown hair and green eyes to dark hair&eyes and olived skin; same goes for italy.

spaniards have a distinct look. i think morientes looks very spanish. I'm not saying every spaniard look like him but I look at this guy and I can tell he's spanish/iberian.

WOW you must be a truly expert on this, but I think u ask from where does this guy come from and almost everyone would say dark spanish or dark italian, even greek:thumbs up

Sorry if I didn't expressed correctly. I was trying to say that it's very difficult to distinguish a dark spaniard from a dark italian or greek.

sometimes it's very hard indeed. Btw spaniards are more homogenous in looks than both of those

It depends on the individual, but the averages are different.

But you can't compare for example someone from asturias with someone of murcia, there's a huge difference

i heard regional differences are small within spain(spaniards said that)

Not really, both are much more similar than either is to an average south italian (for example).

Hmmm... I don't think someone from venetto or Lombardía shares the same features as someone from Napoli or Sicily...

yes, but i didn't say those regions look alike.

what i was trying to say is that spaniards have less phenotypical variety than italians do

It's not about being lighter or darker, the faces are just different. And I don't know who's lighter, nor do I care.

He doesn't look southern Italian, he looks distinctly Iberian. I can easily tell, the vast majority of the time, a Sicilian or Calabrese from an Iberian. I don't think he looks Greek either.

He's heavily Dinarid, and IMO not very Iberian looking either. I think Italians and Iberians overall look different.

Southern Italian phenotypes look more like Greeks and other Italians, rather than Iberians.

You may be right. I thought so because i'm from the iberian peninsula (catalonia region) and when I travel to northern europe I'm always mistaken as Italian or French, that's why I thought so.

Is there any difference between someone from southern italian peninsula (napoli, calabria...) and someone from sicily?

Vasconcelos
01-24-2015, 09:30 PM
Usually Iberians have sharper features, longer faces and straighter noses, for instance. Obviously this is not a rule, there are plenty of people who don't fit this criteria.

No, there is individual variation but not really. Overall they all look similar and IMO all are distinguishable on average from Iberians.

If I have to describe the difference, Iberians have a facial structure more similar to other Western Europeans, usually longer-faced, features further spaced apart. Southern Italians' eyes are often close together and more oval shaped, noses a bit sharper, and a bit rounder faced, more similar to people from southern Greece.
